Now I suppose I have to weigh in on Israel and all that

My basic position is pretty close to Rome’s. I think Israel has a right to defend itself, but that it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that neither side appears to have been serious about Oslo. When the number of Jewish settlers in the West Bank doubles from 100,000 to 200,000 since ’93, it’s not a big surprise that Palestinians get the distinct impression that they are not going to get the land they want to build a nation. Unsurprisingly, they revolt.

On the other hand, the PA is just a thugocracy that keeps its people mired in ignorance, hatred, and stupid self-pity (a malady strikingly common in the Islamic world) and Israel would be crazy to trust it. Arafat had his chance. Begone with him, I say. God forgive the stupid, foolish, and frequently evil Palestinians, whom he and his henchmen have successfully brainwashed into a nation of Julius Streichers. This too is a malady frequent in Islam, which seems hellbent on concentrating in itself all of the darkest impulses of the human heart.

My solution: What? Do you think I’m that vain? I have no solution. I pray. Only God can heal this.
