By the way, Rod

Your article lends more weight to my belief that the Pope’s theology of the cross is not *just* being applied to bishops, in forcing them to remain in office and endure the scorn they so richly deserve. To people who complain “But it makes the rest of the Church bear the cross too!”, my response is, “Yes. And that’s bad because…?” It is the whole Church and, indeed, the whole culture that must suffer through the bed(s) it makes for itself. We have the bishops we deserve because they are the product of the culture you describe in your article.

Show me a culture that despises virginity and I’ll show you a culture that hates children. It’s the culture that needs healing. And the way to healing has always, in Christian understanding, been through the cross. The Pope’s actions make more sense to me every day.
