Makes sense. The main place that serious theological speculation is being done on a massive popular scale is in science fiction. I don’t say it’s very *good* speculation. A lot of it is frankly garbage or embarrassingly shallow (see “Star Wars”). But it’s the only place where people feel free to talk about spiritual questions in our culture without fear of being called a yokel. Problem is, the conversation is dominated by gnostics or pantheists who think they are atheists and who spout the most childish drivel and imagine it to be a new level of profundity.
