…while I feel bad for the folks at Blessed Sacrament, I have to ask, “Isn’t it possible that it’s a *good* thing to spread this guy around?” After all, the apostles didn’t stay put in one place for long either. Now that this parish is well planted might it not be a good thing to plant another? It seems a bit clerical to say the whole fate of a healthy parish stands or falls with the presence of one man. Yes, one really *bad* priest can do a lot of damage and kill the vineyard that’s been planted there. But if you’ve got a healthy switched-on laity and a reasonably good priest taking over, what’s to keep this parish from humming along and forming lay apostles for years to come? I just don’t buy that laity are that helpless.
