How much do you know about the Day the Sun Danced in Fatima?

FatimaForToday.com offers free study guides, other resources about 1917 apparitions

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11, 2011 – The sun danced in the sky 94 years ago on Oct. 13. Known since as the “Miracle of the Sun,” the event marked the final apparition of the Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal, to Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their cousin, Lucia dos Santo.

Writing in Fatima For Today, Fr. Andrew Apostoli, C.F.R., says of the miracle, “Unless we had been present at the Cova on October 13, 1917, we probably cannot grasp the tremendous impact of the spectacular miracle the people witnessed that day. It certainly was one of the most incredible events in human history, as it defies any human explanation.”

How much do you know about Fatima, the Miracle of the Sun, the secrets Mary revealed to the three peasant children, and her call to pray the Rosary daily? October – which is devoted to the Rosary and includes the anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun – is a perfect time to visit a website devoted to Fatima.

Developed by Ignatius Press, www.FatimaForToday.com soon will provide study guides to accompany Fatima for Today and two landmark films produced by Ian and Dominic Higgins – The 13th Day and Finding Fatima. The free study guides, written by Marian expert and well-known Catholic author Mark Shea, will be available for download as PDF files beginning Oct. 20th from FatimaForToday.com. Visitors also will find information on a variety of books and videos on Our Lady of Fatima.

“The message of Fatima is as relevant and important today as it was when Mary first presented it to the children,” said Ignatius Press President Mark Brumley. “We developed the Fatima For Today website to support that message by serving as the source for information and resources covering every aspect of Fatima.”

“The message of Fatima has often been described as a brief summary of the essentials of Christian living,” Fr. Apostoli writes in Fatima for Today. “Our lady of Fatima has given us a great reminder of these essentials for our difficult times.”

In addition to Fr. Apostoli’s book and the landmark films, the website provides access to information on a booklet What Happened at Fatima, published by Catholic Truth Society, and a variety of other books and videos that will bring Fatima to life for people of all ages. There’s even a Fatima coloring book for children!

Me and my wife honeymooned in portugal and spain back in winter of 2007. While at fatima, on our first night at the hotel i woke up in bed in the middle of the night to see the apparition of Mary over where my wife’s head rested. Instead of my wife, there was our blessed Mother Mary! The image lasted very briefly for a good few seconds then disappeared and in its place i saw my wife’s head again, soundly asleep. Before this happened, I had never seen ghosts or apparitions in my life. So this was a big deal for me. I have prayed to Mary and she has never failed me before. I took my sighting of Mary as a friendly reminder to me to be faithful to my wife always, and i am glad of it.

Marvelous! She still watches over us.

Fr Apostoli believes that the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary was done properly in 1984 by the Pope JPII as our Blessed Mother wished. Sad to say, JPII had not enough courage to utter the word “Russia” during that act of purported “consecration”. In addition all the bishops throughout the world were not associated.
Therefore the “Consecration” was flawed and didn’t bring the fruits we could hope. In particular the Russia until now (almost 30 years later) hasn’t converted to the true Catholic faith though our Lady had promised a “miracle of conversion” and, as Fr Apostoli still is noticing, “Russia is continuing to spread her errors”.
Thus in my opinion, sorry Fr Apostoli, the Consecration is yet to be performed.

You may be right good sir, but we also have to remember that the Lord doesn’t work on our timetable. He works on His. I too, would love to see a superabundance of conversions happening right now, but I’m not about to call the consecration a failure because conversions haven’t happened to my own personal liking. My own personal feeling is that we must keep praying and begging the Blessed Virgin to intercede for Russia, and in fact, for all of us poor sinners.

Russia was a Christian country deeply devoted to the Theotokos when large parts of Europe, especially Hungary, was still pagan.

And just what “errors” is Russia spreading? Communism was cooked up by a German Jew living in England, so it’s hardly a Russian error.

BTW, Jacques, before she died, Sr. Lucy said that Blessed John Paul the Great had EXACTLY fulfilled the requirements for the consecration of Russia.

Unless, of course, you believe the paranoid theory that the original Sr. Lucy died–or was assassinated–years ago and a body double was frequently paraded out in her place.

    Have you seen this blog?:
    http://unveilingtheapocalypse.blogspot.com/
It argues that the “hidden text” of the Third Secret may forewarn of a mega-tsunami generated by the collapse of the volcano Cumbre Vieja in the Canary Islands. The author links this event with the “huge mountain, burning with fire” being thrown into the sea in Rev 8:8.

There is an animated movie from 1988 by CCC titled “The Day the Sun Danced: The True Story of Fatima” We own the movie, but I just discovered that you can view it free online at

    http://gloria.tv/?media=26913 .

It is a great 30 minute show the kids ask to watch again and again! ~ It is also a nice reminder for the kids (and us!) to pray the rosary.
