You are beautiful and precious because you are a child of God, Lucy. Don’t let some giant corporate meat machine tell you otherwise.

A brilliant commentary. Thanks for sharing it.

I went to school with this guy. Jesse Rosten was a top-notch guitar player and song writer (from jazz to pop to whatever you want) before turning his talents to video editing. And he’s a solid guy, a true class act (at least he was a decade ago). It’s wonderful to see him getting some recognition.

    Brilliant!!!
It’s funny. There’s nothing wrong with celebrating beauty. But the use of these editing techniques creates a very weird idea of what is beautiful. I remember standing in line at the grocery store and paging through one of those dopey celebrity mags. They were running some story on celebrities spotted without makeup. While not the intention of the writers, I was struck by how beautiful they were without the airbrushing.

  4. Deacon Rick says:

Love it! Will be passing it on to my daughter to show her daughter

  5. Geo says:

A great sendup of a culture that deserves the middle finger and an unprintable salutation from all.

  6. Mary Kelly says:

Lately I’ve been watching TV shows from the 50s, 60s, and even the early 70s and movies from the 30s and 40s. Very enjoyable. My husband noticed that the actresses differed vastly from today’s actresses. Their breast were much smaller. Not unnaturally small, just normal sized…..you know, pre-implants. And there were no low-cut tops or clingy spandex clothing. And the women lacked the in-your-face, don’t-mess with-me look that is so popular with today’s actresses. And do you know what my husband said to me after watching the latest ‘classic’? “Women used to be so beautiful. These girls today think they’re sexy. They’re just trashy looking.” I’d love to hear what other men think about this difference in how women used to look as opposed to how they look now. I don’t know why people think they can improve what God created!

    • james hughes says:

look at Sophia Lauren, Audrey Hepburn, Grace kelly and Julia Roberts among many others and contrast them with the trashy man made ‘ celebrity’ crowd. Your husband is dead right !

A Joke: How do you get an atheist with one arm out of a tree? Toss him a copy of “The God Delusion”.

  8. Jim from Utah says:

Yes, the women in older programs do look entirely different. When watching old movies and television shows I have noticed that the men who were acting were much less muscular as well. Today, it seems that most of the men who are acting have artificially in-shape looks. They are using gyms and eatting healthier too, that is for sure, but we can’t discount the notion that never did I see more borderline-illegal pharmaceuticals designed to shape the body and enhance it’s appearance than the short time I spent living along the coast in Southern California.

You know I might be skinny but I can wrestle a beef. And, these guys in their 60′s are twice as strong as me. Yet, none of them look it. Call it old man strength if you will.

  9. Kristine says:

The commentary made by the video is spot on. But … who’s the giant corporate meat machine you refer to?

    • Mark Shea says:

The corporate meat machines who package and sell these models as the impossible standard of beauty for our culture to consume.

      • Kristine says:

Corporat meat machines are run by people with a common (albeit warped) goal. People are responsible for selling an impossible standard of beauty. And people are responsible for buying into it. Why? I know why the corporations sell. But I don’t know why the people buy.

        • April says:

          I agree. I don’t know why people buy…
Here’s a radical idea. Let’s all – every Catholic and Christian in America – remove our televisions and refuse to attend the movies -for one year. That may actually get the corporate meat machines’ (aka Hollywood) attention. Maybe then we could turn it around and tell them what we want to buy.

  10. Dustin says:

‘The Evil Culture That Shouts at My Grand-Daughter’ – indeed. Making one’s way through this world is a dangerous and painful proposition. It is painful to face the way others dehumanize and devalue us. Worse, we dehumanize and devalue ourselves, unless, that is, we undertake the great effort to extract ourselves from the common mentality, and get the help we need from others to make this journey of the heart and mind. We are fellow guardians on a dangerous journey to God.

  11. Thinkling says:

An amazing thing about this video is that if you tweak a small number of wink-wink spoilers (“Look like plastic”), there are many people who would take this 100% seriously.

Is the “Joanna Shea” in the credits any relation?

  12. Posted this on FB (with appropriate thanks to you and The Cuteness). Is there a real distinction between “evil” and “amoral” anymore?

  13. McLaren says:

Wonderful!!! Thanks so much. I’ll be passing it on to our Lucy.
