    Highly recommend it!

  • Indeed! It is VERY good. A couple of notches better than “Bella”.

I was borderline shocked that SDG only gave it a “B-“…I can’t see it deserving less than a “B+”. Personally, I give it an “A-“

When I watched the trailer and the ’emo’ music swelled, I balked and stopped watching. I’m such an old fart.

I wasn’t Bella‘s biggest cheerleader, but Bella is head and shoulders above October Baby. Sorry, folks, that’s the way it is. October Baby isn’t a bad film, but there’s a reason Bella won the People’s Choice award at the Toronto Film Festival and October Baby just wouldn’t. One of these films has power to reach significantly beyond the pro-life / Christian market and the other doesn’t, and the one that does is Bella.

In the combox of my NCRegister review of October Baby, Daniel McInerny holds forth on his own far more negative take on October Baby, elaborated in his Catholic Exchange review. My take is more sympathetic and, I think, even-handed, but Daniel’s criticisms are legitimate and fair. The makers of October Baby — and all other hopeful Christian filmmakers — would do well to take to heart the points raised in his review and discussed / debated in my combox.
