Huzzah and hooray, I will do what I can to advance Toniolo’s cause!
“Political homelessness” is a good phrase. And in line with it being “the Church’s best kept secret”, the relatively unknown history of attempts at realizing the Church’s teachings on social justice in Europe are fascinating. Dolfuss in Austria is a particularly intriguing example. Again, “politically homeless” – “fascism bad, democracy good” would normally dismiss Dolfuss out of hand. Like the “EF good, OF bad” silliness, political systems don’t innately produce the good, virtue, etc. The reality is far more complex than the silly reductionists would have it.

Thanks for posting this, Mark. It made my day.
“(Toniolo’s sainthood process began in 1951. He was declared “venerable” by Pope Paul VI in 1971, and beatified under Benedict XVI in 2012. That’s a gap of 20 years to cross the first threshold, and 41 years to reach the second. If a similar trajectory continues, we can probably expect canonization in about 80 years, somewhere around 2092.)”
This gives me fresh hope for my favorite two distributionist-related people on their way to Sainthood: GK Chesterton and Fr. Michael J. McGivney.
