Godwin’s Law (the popular conception of it, at least) has always troubled me.

I mean, what if the comparison is apt?

“The government is starting to act like Hitler’s Germany.”

    “Godwin’s Law!! You lose!”

“B-but… they are making Jews wear stars, herding them onto trains, and–”

“What?! You’re still here? We already established that you lost…”

The original “law” was simply that a conversation will invariably include a Hitler reference the long it goes. It is a stupid “corollary” that whoever mentions it loses the argument. It’s one more lazy excuse to not actually try to understand what someone else is saying.

      • When you say that, you sound just like HITLER. And if you object, it is a lazy excuse to not actually try to understand what I am saying.

  • I see that the specific hooraw the column is discussing involves the reactions of people who assume that the Pope is the ghost writer for every piece printed in L’Osservatore Romano. After all, TheVatican is a hive mind, and every statement emanating therefrom is to be ascribed to “the Pope”. Just like every statement made by anyone in the executive branch or the Democrat party is ascribed to “Obama”. Oh, wait… it isn’t.
