And, of course, the Great Sign of Hope is Happening Today

The Feast of the Assumption is the real sign of the completion of the gospel mystery. It’s one thing to say Christ is ascended into heaven. But it’s another thing to say that all that drama has actually done the job it was supposed to do and brought somebody who is *not* God into heaven. The Assumption of Mary is the sign that all that stuff Jesus went through actually works and saves people and brings them to the happiness we have been born longing for. Mary is the great sign of our own destiny: the promise that if you remain faithful, you will wind up exactly where she is, in eternal glory and happiness. Compared with that Hope, all the little squabbles about politics and so forth are vanishingly small beer. Wany hope? Look at the Assumption of Mary. That’s you someday.

Awesome, Mark! Thank you, and a blessed Holy Day to you and your family!

May I also recommend Dcn. Greg’s homily for today? (patheos.com/blogs/deaconsbench

  • Peggy R

Yes, our pastor made that very point in his homily today.

  • Paula G

The Assumption is a sign of God’s promise fulfilled. The same promise He has made to all the faithful.

  • Will

Our pastor says you have to have faith and believe Mary was assumed into heaven. The Catholic CCD teachers in Virginia that refused to sign the statement that they believed all of the church’s teachings did not have faith.

And it a great counter to what is the logical conclusion of the message put forth by fanatical atheists.: if this is truly all there is, the ultimate destiny of us all and the universe specifically is disintegration into nothing but low-temperature background radiation.
