Hey Seattle! Messiah is Coming

A reader writes:

Hi, Mark!  I was wondering if you could let your Seattle-area readers know about an opportunity this weekend to hear a holiday classic and support a really wonderful parish music program.

Our Lady of Fatima in Magnolia will be performing Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, November 18 at 3:00pm.  We use period instruments and perform the piece as it was originally premiered in Dublin in 1742.  This is my fourth year performing with the group as a chorister and as one of the soloists, and I was struck during rehearsal last night by the thought that people might really need this music and this experience this year.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, with discounts for students and seniors.  Here’s the link:

Just a query, in the States do people stand up during the Hallelujah chorus as is the tradition in the UK?

Yes, Bogarte! Every performance I’ve participated in of Messiah has involved people standing during the Hallelujah chorus. Although I always see a few puzzled souls who look around and stand up in total bewilderment, wondering what the heck everyone is doing.
