He’s been doing well since Fr. Z plugged him last week, considering he only had about $6000 before that, but I don’t know if he’s going to hit his mark with less than three weeks left, and he’s less than half-way there. I’m not sure I understand why there is a deadline on this, and why he can’t just make it once he has the money. But I’m sure it will be great – Fr. Hollowell is a great priest!
The deadline – it’s a fairly common feature for crowd-sourcing type fundraisers, especially through indie go-go or kickstarter platforms. It’s a way of communicating that you are serious about the project, making sure people who donate know that their money won’t be tied up, forever waiting on more funders if a project isn’t going to get off the ground. And it also gives donors a little more incentive to donate at the same time, rather than sitting on their thumbs (for these types of start-up projects, it is a lot harder to get things done when funding trickles in, vs a big chunk all at once).
