Neat, I like it. They’re really trying to conform themselves to the social teachings.
Ugh! A papal encyclical does not close off further inquiry into economics and when economics diverges from the Pope’s predictions it is the Pope who is in need of correction, not economic reality. Today access to the means of production is wider spread under capitalism than it has been for many centuries under any system and the main impediment for capital to become available to most of the poor is the fear that it will be stolen by the government that is economically repressing that poor person with autarchic, socialist, or other oddball policies.
Capital is still in shortage so must be allocated as a finite good until the happy day when we are shorter on ideas and imagination than we are on money. But this magazine’s definition of christian democracy is trapped in a past that no longer exists. That is not a properly Catholic way of looking at the world, no matter how faithful they are to the encyclicals. Catholicism has always been willing and always should be willing to confront reality as it is.
Wow. It’s like I’m reading something from Catholics for Choice, only it’s economics instead of abortion. The cafeteria is wide open.
