Dave Brubeck, RIP

A great musician and a Catholic convert. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

“Take Five” from the seminal album, “Time Out” is written in 5/4. “Time Out” was a significant album because it was the first jazz album in which every tune was written in some time signature besides 4/4. Plus, it’s just flat great music.

Brubeck went on to write Masses too.

I love his stuff. Innovative, but accessible and fun in its way.
