I have read some very good comments by her over at Crossed the Tiber.

  • Thanks for the recommendation. I find the Evangelical to Catholic path fascinating, even though I’m a revert more or less.

I’ve recently finished a pile of your books. One of the things I was looking for help on is overcoming the temptations to respond to the historical and theological claims of Evangelical Protestantism with ‘that is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard’ – a remarkably unhelpful, if honest and heartfelt, response.

You, like John Henry Newman and many other, seemed to have gotten deep into history and thus ceased to be a Protestant. However, I suspect that if one were not already a Protestant, getting an inch or two into history would do the trick. The Protestant revisionist ‘history’ is so ludicrous, the theology so incoherent, the Scriptural interpretations so selective and context free it’s just baffling – to me, at least – that anyone falls for it.

But I do realize that this is my problem, that I need to get a grip and stop rolling my eyes Tina Fey style, and be ready with a better, more Christian response. But it’s not easy.
