It was the San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Department that ended the standoff, not the LAPD.
I’m not sure what else they could have done–trying to end it with tear gas runs the risk of ignition, yes. But in the absence of evidence that the SBCSD deliberately ignited it, such an accusation is imprudent. Especially given our conspiracy-minded culture.
Be disciplined and wait for the facts.

And it’s a good point too, except that Nixon was a Republican, ergo, to the opposing tribe his behavior was not an example to all that the President-is-not-infallible, but simply that the Other Guys are corrupt.

I’m mainly referring to the recordings of the police scanners calling to “burn it down” right before the fire started. Yes, it could have been doctored, but it sure doesn’t look good.
