Here’s a chance to do a work of mercy: Adopt a cardinal to pray for during the conclave.
I guess I should adopt my former Archbishop, Cardinal Mahony. He’s likely to remain an orphan otherwise.
I was going to post the opposite. It’s not fair if everyone picks Mahony.
A guy I know on Facebook had his daughter do this and she actually did get Mahoney.
I got Ennio Cardinal Antonelli.
I got Antonio Cañizares Llovera.
Either coincidence or the Spirit’s sense of humor were at work on this one: he’s the one Cardinal born the same month as my dad, and I once got lost in the catacombs (after regular visiting hours, and therefore with no one on duty looking for me, mind you) beneath his titular church in Rome.
If I were more of a signs and wonders guy, I’d transmogrify this into proof that he will be the next Pope, and that I will be intimately involved with it all somehow.
Well, the site has been so bombarded with traffic, you can’t adopt a cardinal (at least until they fix it, which they said there trying to…), so I went to the Vatican’s website, pulled up a list of cardinal electors and let my mouse choose with my eyes closed. And with that my mouse chose…
Claudio Cardinal Hummes O.F.M. of Brazil. Then I got some background information with a mouse click and got to learn about someone I’ve not heard of before. Pretty cool if you ask me. This is a really neat idea. I’ll think I’ll keep him on my list even after conclave. 🙂 Thanks for the idea and the link. I know you’re not the only blogger to post this, even at this site so thanks to all of you for sharing this idea.
