A bit more of Paul’s epic “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” moment:

“When I asked the president, ‘Can you kill an American on American soil?’ it should have been an easy answer. It’s an easy question. It should have been a resounding and unequivocal, ‘No.’ The president’s response? He hasn’t killed anyone yet. We’re supposed to be comforted by that. The president says, ‘I haven’t killed anyone yet.’ He goes on to say, ‘And I have no intention of killing Americans. But I might.’ Is that enough? Are we satisfied by that? Are we so complacent with our rights that we would allow a president to say he might kill Americans? But he will judge the circumstances, he will be the sole arbiter, he will be the sole decider, he will be the executioner in chief if he sees fit. Now, some would say he would never do this. Many people give the president the — you know, they give him consideration. They say he’s a good man. I’m not arguing he’s not. What I’m arguing is that the law is there and set in place for the day when angels don’t rule government.”

    Indeed, Go Rand Paul. Not only for bringing up this issue but for filibustering the real way.

    Mark, I was wondering how long it would take for you to mention the filibuster. Not long, as it turned out. And it’s a good, strong classic filibuster, not the wimpier version we’ve seen in recent years. Though I have a mix of positive and negative feelings about Rand Paul, I admire what he’s doing. And hopefully, he’ll get enough support from his colleagues so that the filibuster is still going on when we wake up tomorrow morning.

    This policy is so dangerous to our freedoms and I am glad RP is taking a stand. I believe he is being sincere about this and hope his filibuster makes an impact. I wish the Administration would stop with the hypotheticals and give us a concrete example of when the Gov’t would use a drone against an American citizen in the USA.

    He’s doing a great job. First just Cruz and Rubio and Lee joined in. Now, late in the evening more GOP senators are joining in. Only 1 Dem, Wyden, OR, has spoken up. This is really a vital issue of our basic right to due process and right to life.

    The Christian thinks “Good Samaritan” and not “Constitutionality.” This “right to life” is a universal value and not just something reserved for Americans. We need to oppose this in all its uses and not just its unConstitutional uses.

    I really don’t think Jesus cares much about that piece of paper. He told a story in which Judaism’s hated enemy saved the Jew’s life when he was asked by the Jew “who is my neighbor?” Jesus has different ideas about neighbor and family and nationality.

    Let’s think bigger than “unConstitutional.”

      You are a physician, Dan. You know better, by training and experience, than to make the Perfect the enemy of the Good.

      If there are politicians actually fighting to end ALL the slaughter of innocents, I am all for it. Until then, I’m settling for the guy who has a good, but imperfect, understanding.
