Good News as Priests for Life Scores a Victory over the HHS Mandate

They write:

Priests for Life Supporter,

Late Wednesday afternoon the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit granted our motion to “stay” the HHS mandate.

This is a huge victory – even though it’s only a temporary one.

What this means is that the injunction that is currently protecting Priests for Life from having to abide by the HHS mandate that seeks to force us to comply with the government’s expansion of abortion remains in place until the Supreme Court issues a ruling on our lawsuit.

Without the stay, Priests for Life would have been in the position of being fined for failing to comply with the HHS mandate.

Of course, we wouldn’t have obeyed the mandate no matter what the Appeals Court had ruled. Nor would we have paid the fines.

Still, the fact that the Appeals Court granted our motion is encouraging news.  It gives some acknowledgment that our lawsuit raises serious Constitutional questions over freedom of religion and freedom to follow one’s conscience – and how far the government can go to force individuals to comply with its decrees.

These are vital questions for you and all Americans.  Which is why we’re headed to the Supreme Court and why I sent you this urgent email.

On Tuesday of this week the attorneys arguing our case filed the necessary legal paperwork asking the Supreme Court to hear our case.

Before you hit the “delete” button and move on to your next email, make a contribution to Priests for Life’s “Legal Fund” and help us make our case for Religious Freedom before the Supreme Court.

It’s critical that you do this NOW because, even though we’ve won a “stay of execution” for religious freedom, IT’S ONLY A TEMPORARY VICTORY.

The Supreme Court is now OUR FINAL CHANCE to defend our right to practice our religion as God calls us to, and without fear of government force or oppression.

But the Priests for Life “Legal Fund” is empty.  We’ve spent every penny you and other pro-life heroes have sent us in this long dawn-out legal fight.

Which is why we need your urgent and immediate financial help.

Our lawyers have worked tirelessly over the last three and a half-years to argue our case before several courts, and to put together the lengthy brief that they filed with the Supreme Court just the other day.

It will require roughly $100,000 to sustain their work into the next phase.

And as I write to you today, Priests for Life simply doesn’t have $100,000.

That’s why I’m counting on you to CLICK HERE and make a donation that Priests for Life can use to protect religious freedom in America.

Some have asked whether we could not get someone to do this legal work pro-bono.  Actually, we did! If we hadn’t, the price tag would be many times more than it is.

But even when attorneys donate their time, there are still expenses that arise; for example, from staff work and related costs that the organization incurs!

That’s why Priests for Life needs your immediate help.

In asking this of you, I can say without a moment’s hesitation that this could well be the most important pro-life contribution you will ever make.

I say that because, if we fail before the Supreme Court, our legal and Constitutional right to oppose the killing of defenseless children in the womb will – in practice if not in theory – will be taken away from us.

Not only that, but the government will be given the power and authority to compel those of us who recognize the sanctity and dignity of all human life to take a direct role in the murder of children in the womb.

Of course, as I noted a moment ago, neither I nor anyone here at Priests for Life will ever comply with such a ruling.  I will spend the rest of my days in jail before I will ever submit to any earthly authority that tries to force me to be part of the slaughter of unborn children.

And I am sure you feel the same.

That’s why it’s so important we win in the Supreme Court.

So please take a moment right now to CLICK HERE and give a donation to Priests for Life’s “Legal Fund” so that we can stay on track with our case against the abortion directive of ObamaCare.

There is much more about our case that I need to tell you.  And I will in the coming days and weeks.

But right now the important thing is that you make a contribution to our “Legal Fund.”

And it really doesn’t matter whether you give $15 or $1,500.  All that matters is that you do the best you can and give whatever you can.

Please do this NOW … before you do another thing.

The simple fact of the matter is, there is nothing more important you will do today than to stand with Priests for Life as we fight to protect, not only the lives of our unborn brothers and sisters, but our right to defend every American’s God-given RIGHT TO LIFE.

Thank you for doing this.  And please, please, please PRAY for our attorneys, as well as the nine Justices on the Supreme Court.

Thank you again and may God bless you.

Sincerely,

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director
