She’s not Trump. That’s it. That’s all. I support Hillary with the white hot passion of a thousand shrugs. Which is to say I’d vote for her if I had to (if I lived in a swing state), but will vote a third party protest both against the both of them since I live in ultra-violet blue Washington and don’t have to vote for her for her to carry the state.
I don’t have to defend a thing about her evil policies or ideas. Her bellicosity. Her dutiful obsequies to the 1% and enthrallment to Mammon. Her sleaze. Her dishonesty. Her support for abortion. Her entitled lawlessness. I’m free to condemn it all. Because the sole case for her is that support for her is remote material cooperation with evil when you are attempting to lessen evil, not supporting the evil that she will do. That’s not me saying that. That’s Pope Benedict:
A Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil, and so unworthy to present himself for Holy Communion, if he were to deliberately vote for a candidate precisely because of the candidate’s permissive stand on abortion and/or euthanasia. When a Catholic does not share a candidate’s stand in favour of abortion and/or euthanasia, but votes for that candidate for other reasons, it is considered remote material cooperation, which can be permitted in the presence of proportionate reasons.
Trump supporters, on the other hand, have to defend everything he says and does and will spend the rest of his campaign doing that. Because he is bellicose, Mammon-worshiping, sleazy, dishonest, abortion-supporting, and lawless too, as well as racist, misogynist, mocking of POWs and the disabled, cruel even to his own flesh and blood nephew with cerebral palsy, incompetent, incurious, thrice-married, calling for the murder of civilians and the use of torture, unstable, narcissistic and clearly the most dangerous human being ever to be placed within reach of the White House.
Or, we could be more prolife, not less. Listen the Church’s whole teaching and fight for the unborn without wasting our time fighting the Church on rationalizing every GOP culture of death priority every time they command prolifers to jump.
