The amazing geography of Eastern Washington

The amazing geography of Eastern Washington July 21, 2017

is the result of periodic epic catastrophes like the eruption of the hotspot that is now under Yellowstone but used to be under Idaho, as well as (millions of years later) multiple stupendous floods from Lake Missoula. Imagine a volume of water equal to Lake Michigan suddenly being disgorged into eastern Washington in the space of two days–and imagine it happening from time to time roughly 100 times.

Had a chance to take a geology tour of eastern Washington a few years ago with my buddy Mike Drollman. Super cool.
