Karrine Steffans broke up with U.S. TV pundit Bill Maher. So what does she do? She trash-talks him in Vibe magazine and the New York Post.

Fine. Trash him if you want, Karrine, but don’t bring us into it! She says of Maher, “Bill wants someone he can put down in an argument… I might as well have been a Muslim woman with my head wrapped, walking 10 paces behind my man. I couldn’t be ‘Bill Maher’s girlfriend’ any more – not when I’m Karrine Steffans . . . best-selling author.”

Well, Karrine, you may have been smart enough to dump Bill Maher, but you’re not smart enough to know that Muslim women don’t walk 10 paces behind their men. That’s just a stereotype.

And I’m not even going to touch the “head wrapped” comment. What are we, mummies?

Steffans’ comments imply that Muslim women are not only subservient to our men, but somehow lesser than our men. Pfff.

Funny how she says “best selling author” and leaves out “girl named Superhead who slept with most of Hollywood, then spilled the beans to everyone”. She doesn’t seem smart enough to know much, if that’s any consolation.

  2. Zeynab says:

Ms. Steffans’ sexual history isn’t relevant to the article or her bigoted comments against Muslim women.

  3. Safiya says:

Well, it might show why she has a skewed view of female empowerment. Her sexual history is the sole reason for her fame, she is usually called Karrine “Superhead” Steffans and she gave herself that nickname.

  4. Melinda says:

Ugh, it’s disappointing that “Muslim woman” would be used as a synonym for “submissive, husband-serving, second-class citizen.”

  5. Zeynab says:

I don’t disagree about Ms. Steffans’ history, I just don’t think it’s appropriate to bring up. It’s uncomfortably close to trying to discredit her because she’s a “bigmouthed slut.” We don’t know the reasons that motivated her sexual history, so it’s presumptuous to assume that’s the cause of her bigotry. Besides, empowerment is subjective: what may empower white women in Illinois may not empower white women in Germany, etc.
