AKI Gets Tired of the Same Old Terrorist Stock Footage

AKI reported last week that the result of Pakistan’s elections will boost counter-terrorism efforts. This was the sole picture posted along with their story.

What do Pakistani elections and counter-terrorism efforts that have to do with niqabis? There isn’t anything in the story about women or women who wear niqab. Does AKI think that niqab = terrorist?

Oh…that’s so idiotic. Especially since in Pakistan you will find far more women who do not wear the niqab than those who do. But I suppose the niqab does seem to represent terrorism to them, as it does in reality represent an extreme version of Islam. But to convolute extreme conservativism with terrorism would be inaccurate. Unfortunately that is the way it’s seen. I’m not really sure how to disspell the myth.

IA with Duniya. I never understood the association of niqab with terrorism either. Anytime there is a mention of extremism or terrorism among Muslims pictures of niqaabis spring up, no matter how unrelated they are to the story. Case in point, the dispatches undercover story using footage of niqaabis even though the show was discussing the extremism of imams at some conservative masajid in the UK. It was completely unrelated.

I think the vision of a woman completely veiled in a sack like garment confuses people…automatically the essence of the story is lost behind a plethora of assumptions…regardless of the story a pic of niqabi women automatically taints it with fears of “extremists”…I think if you talked about tomato soup and the woman holding the can was in niqab…people would assume there was something inferior about that soup…and would be suspicious of anyone who had it in there shopping cart at the local grocery store.

they do appear to be in some kind of line. perhaps they’re in line at a voting poll?why say masajid and not munaqabat? fast becoming my pet islam-related peeve (i have categories).i don’t think niqab=terrorism is an automatic connection, but it is true that militant Muslim groups do love them some niqab.

Niqab indicates Islam, and Islam is of course the root of all terrorism.

I did find that funny at first, a lot of newspapers in the UK too for some reaosn put pictures of niqab wearing women under stories about elections in pakistan…
