Great post I think it’s a challenge to present a Muslim female character in a television series, but I think she should given it a shot. But like you said, having ONE Muslim character risks creating a stereotype about the entire female Muslim population. This is why we need more alternatives presented in other forms of media to break these stereotypes.Perhaps the best place to accommodate a Muslim character without creating stereotypes would be in a Muslim television series where multiple types of women are shown. That way, we see the diversity.

jamericanmuslimah:Where did you read that interview? I’m just curious because as of 2007 it seemed she was Muslim. Or so articles as of 2007 were reporting she was. Even if she is not Muslim now, during most of the run of the show she was.

From what I understand she isn’t Muslim anymore. I read an interview where she said she is a Buddhist now and her parents are Muslim and Sufi. That may explain why there was no Muslim girlfriend.
