Well, not that I want things to appear brighter than they really are, but I personally believe major changes happen in steps.
When the times comes that rape is a 100% crime that the law takes responsibility for both punishing the criminal and help the victim, I think we can start looking at moving forward regarding marriage within rape.

I do agree with you, it happens and when you include all kinds of abuse, it is not uncommon.

The other thing that makes Dr. Khater's debate unfair too, is that some of the rapists are married men!! It's not about deprivation at all.

Thanks for the clarification, Eman! Still, I think it's stupid because like I said, rape can happen within a marriage, too!

But then, again, how would marriage prevent rape if rape can happen within marriage?

I don't think her debate was depending on this. She meant to blame the whole society for making marriage harder for men so that legitimate sex is no longer an option.
Like it's my problem!
I still don't agree with Dr. Khater's opinion, but I felt I had to clear it out.

and I agree with you that no one should dare blaming a rape victim for anything!

Is Dr. Faiza Khater a woman? I don't understand how someone so educated could say something so stupid. What could a woman possibly do that would make being raped her own fault? Lots of women get raped by their husbands. Maybe Dr. Khater would agree we should all stay single or marry other women so that no one can say it's our own fault for putting ourselves in harm's way :P

@ Ms. Hala: The U.S. has allowed abortions (for any reason) since the 1970s. It is still a very contentious subject, but it is technically legal.

if Egypt passes such a law before the United States, that would simply show how far Egypt has gone when it comes to women's rights. Islam gives a woman so much rights and yet they have been denied by the common person... so sad.
