I remember reading a great article on Nuseiba (http://nuseiba.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/a-desire-to-look/)about the whole 'take it off' attitude at the moment, pinning it to "European colonialism’s insatiable desire to unveil the Muslim woman, due to its obsession with looking".
