Life is Good

Life is Good May 14, 2009

Yesterday afternoon I called the surgeon’s office to inquirer about the status of the lymph node biopsy from auntie’s mastectomy thirteen days ago. The person with whom I spoke said the biopsy was in but the doctor was not. I asked if Joan the nurse supreme was available & was told they would ask her to get back to me. But she didn’t.

Last night I awoke at two in the morning and didn’t get back to sleep until somewhere in the neighborhood of three thirty. This is rare for me. I usually fall asleep within a minute or two of head hitting pillow & except for that increasingly interesting visit to the bathroom at night sleep on through.
Auntie for those who do not know is a fixture of our family. Jan & I moved her and my mother in with us almost twenty years ago. Mom died about a decade past, but auntie, whom we refer to in the third person more as “the hobbit,” has been doing her hobbit thing happily with us. In my childhood she had parental qualities and was very important to me. She continues to be so…
This morning I visited the surgeon’s office and Joan walked me through the biopsy. (The call back was the first thing on her pile, which quite literally I saw at her desk…)
All is clean.
Which means for now no more anything fr auntie. Well, almost nothing. She’ll be visiting an oncologist & we’ll have a new annual check up to go with the other stuff…
But life is good…
Funny what becomes good…
