May Allah Guide Them, or Break Their Backs

"May Allah Guide Them, or Break Their Backs" A couple of days ago I typed this sentence in a blog post. I was referring to the people involved in making the low-budget film that portrayed Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, in a negative light. Worse than than, it was horrible, awful, blasphemous for Muslims. I got a lot of feedback from my post, much of it favorable, but there were several people who felt that this one sentence was brutal and … [Read more...]

My Brother the Drug Dealer

Every family has one. That relative who makes you cringe. The black sheep of the family. The trouble maker. The bad seed. The bum. When I became Muslim over nineteen years ago, I immediately became a sister to all the more than one billion Muslims on the planet. Quite lovely and touching, when you think of it. A black-skinned man in Sudan is my brother. A lady with straight black hair and pale skin in China is my sister. A nut-brown girl in a village in India, a flaming redhead in Ireland, an … [Read more...]

Autstic Kids at my Eid Party? Sure, Why Not?

Salaam Alaikum wa Rahmatullah. So Ramadan is almost at an end and I'm planning my Eid party.  We decided last year that in order to make the Muslim Holy Days / holidays special, we'd have a big get-together with a bounce house, snacks, crafts, and lots of friends.  Our first Eid party was small but fun with several families and the neighborhood kids.  The bounce house was a major success.  I just made my reservation for a large Dora / Diego bounce house for our party set for September 1.  I crea … [Read more...]

Just Another Honor Killing in the News

Today a Canadian court delivered a guilty verdict in the prosecution of Mohammed Shafia for the “honor murders” of his three teenage daughters and first wife. Once again Islam is in the spotlight as the acts of three ignorant people cast a horrible light on the religion they profess, Islam. Okay, just so we're clear here. There is NO place in Islam for so-called “honor killings”. Honor killings are murder, plain and simple, and anyone who tries to claim that they are condoned by Muslims or by … [Read more...]

Merry Happy Christmas Hanukkah Festivus New Year Diwali Secretaries’ Day!

Salaam Alaikum,Merry Christmas.  Happy New Year.  Feliz Navidad.  Happy Hanukkah.  Happy Festivus (for the rest of us).  Merry FSM Day (Google it).So many holidays, so much HARAAAAAAAM!Since I basically live on Facebook, it is my window to the world.  Most of my Facebook friends are Muslim, and a whole lot of my world was busy telling the rest of my world, in BLARING I'M SHOUTING AT YOU, YOU IGNORANT PERSON CAPS, that they were committing a sin by - snorting heroin?  smoking crack … [Read more...]

The Benevolent Dictator – No, Not Kim Jung Il, ME

As Salaamu Alaikum and good morning all.  It's about 9 am here in Virginia.  Kids are off to school, smaller ones are ensconced in front of the TV watching cartoons.  The cats are milling about hoping someone drops a frosted flake on the floor.  I am here this morning to confess to being a really disorganized person.   It affects all areas of my life.  I start something, forget what I was doing, go back later and have to start again.  I do it with this blog, too.  Sometimes I'll post more than on … [Read more...]

Okay, I confess, we ARE trying to take over the world

Once again Islam is in the news as a major kerfluffle is underway due to Lowe's decision to pull advertising from the TLC reality show "All-American Muslim".  Islamophobes opine about creeping sharia law, while Muslims try to reassure them that, no, we don't want sharia, we are perfectly content with American law and we are fully integrated in society.  Well, time for me to confess.  For religious Muslims, that's a load of horse hockey.  We want sharia law.  We want Islamic law to be the law of t … [Read more...]

Thank you, Aliaa Elmehdy, for showing us what freedom is

Salaam Alaikum wa RahmatullahI read a news article this weekend about an Egyptian feminist blogger named Aliaa Elmehdy, who in a controversial move uploaded a nude picture online in order to express her freedom after the revolution in Egypt.  Her move was met with condemnation by Muslims all over the world, but for myself, I have a different view.I for one would like to give a hearty "thank you" to Aliaa Elmehdy for showing all us ignorant repressed women what freedom is really all … [Read more...]
