Why does the menstruating woman not pray or fast? A personal and practical possible answer

As Salaamu Alaikum. I have had some Muslim friends asking questions about certain rules and regulations in Islam. Specifically, it was asked "Why don't we women pray or fast during our menses?".Now, the short answer to that is "God said so". Ramadan Moonsighting; A Lesson in “Divide and Conquer”

Every year it's the same thing.  An epic battle rages on the internet between two different factions of Muslims.  I'm not talking Sunni vs Shia here - I'm talking about The Moonsighting Wars.
