There are all kinds of human designations for God. They are all our words attempting to describe a thing.
And we all know that the word is not the thing.
I’m pretty convinced Holy Spirit is a woman have no evidence though.
i hear that!
“We believe whatever we want to believe.” –Demosthenes.
I think at some point its not what I ‘want’ to believe, it’s more my experiences with Holy Spirit that makes it logical (to me) that she is feminine (I know men that believe that too by the way so it has nothing to do with me being a woman 😀 )
God has attributes of both.
But since Jesus referred constantly to “the Father”…we take the cue from him and refer to God as Father, as well.
Unless we’d rather place our pride and what we’d like to see ahead of what has been given us.
So even though we can agree that Jesus condescended to use the language and worldview available at the time, you would say God’s sex is male?
In their image they created humans: male and female! Kinda hard to ignore that even the very earliest record speaks of the maleness and femaleness of the godhead.
Have you been reading The Shack? I enjoy Paul Young’s imagery of the trinity.
I read the shack years ago. I already did a cartoon about that at the time.
Hi David, I recently tried to tackle this seemingly impossible topic via a post at Patheos Spirituality titled “Who is God”. You can see it here: http://tinyurl.com/lbsj9cs Thanks, enjoying your work. ~Tom
good post. that would ruffle a few feathers 😉
1 John 4.8 says God is love. So what is love, male or female?
God’s gender is simply a byproduct of our culture.
