A&E, Duck Dynasty and Who’s Fooling Who

a&e duck dynasty cartoon by nakedpastor david hayward

I’ve been requested to extend my 50% OFF SALE for a few more days. Just go to my store and shop. Use the coupon code ‘boxing’ when you check out to get the deep discount. There’s a new Sophia called “Hide” there.

I said that this Duck Dynasty cartoon would be it. Nope. Phil Robertson is back on Duck Dynasty after a two week suspension for his anti-gay comments, etcetera.

It’s all business and marketing. Well played?

About David Hayward

David Hayward runs the blog nakedpastor as a graffiti artist on the walls of religion where he critiques religion… specifically Christianity and the church. He also runs the online community The Lasting Supper where people can help themselves discover, explore and live in spiritual freedom.

  • Clayton P. King

David, upon reflection, I have to conclude this is marketing at its best.

  • http://demiurgiclust.net shelly

Not only is it marketing, it proves they care more about ratings than about taking a PROPER stand against bigotry. In fact, they’re condoning his bigotry.

Cishet white male class privilege at work.

  • http://www.evolvingchristianfaith.net irreverance

I would be interested in seeing how this has affected their number of viewers.

  • Dennis Irwin

    They’re not condoning bigotry…..because there wasn’t any.

  • klhayes

    They are marketing to bigots.

  • http://demiurgiclust.net shelly

Yes, there was. Or did you conveniently forget that the man was racist as well as heterosexist?

  • Cecilia Davidson

I’m pretty sure you’re the type of person who would say that the way PoCs had been treated in the past was perfectly fine.

  • Cecilia Davidson

Disney and Hearst only care about money. Cracker Barrel got hell from the fanatics

  • Dennis Irwin

For me, I hate it when I hedge an argument on incorrect information. It would bother me, not so much for you I guess.

  • Dennis Irwin

I have no idea what PoCs are.

  • Gary

Not everyone who thinks Cracker Barrel was wrong to pull the merchandise off the shelves are “fanatics”. I disagreed strongly with Phil’s comments of course. I also disagree with the extreme political correctness that calls for action every time someone says something a group disagrees with…no matter where that group may stand.

  • buildamoat

    Obviously.

  • Dennis Irwin

Well I guess it means “people of color”. Just don’t know why you need an “s” at the end.

  • buildamoat

    Convention, at this point.

  • Dennis Irwin

Such a fascinating outcome. What’s interesting to me is how Phil’s detractors either had no argument against him, or incorrect arguments against him that received no traction with people. Take Dave’s comment: “…. for his anti-gay comments”. No, it wasn’t anti-gay comments but anti-sin comments. An incorrect argument. (Where’s the outrage for his “anti-sleeping around with women” comments?). And yes, the bible says homosexual relations are a sin. And most folks know it. Typical, so many have misrepresented the facts here. Sin is not usually a popular topic. I get it. But this is why I think the argument was lost by the LGBT community (and progressives?)…….not being honest. The truth is, saying you like the body parts of the opposite sex is not bigotry. And when you deceive by saying it is, you’re going to lose the argument with most folks. The same is true when a hetro says they think sex/affection with people of the same sex is repugnant…..it’s not bigotry. And when you say it is, again, you’re going to lose the argument. As A&E found out, not only do most humans believe these two facts, but they live them in the real world. And for good reason……they were made that way.

  • Al Cruise

What would you like to see done with the LGBT community?

  • Dennis Irwin

    Done? Nothing.

  • http://demiurgiclust.net shelly

  • Gary

Dennis you have ZERO answers for honest biblical study such as the facts presented by Matthew in the video above…yet you cling to this rabid claim of sinfulness. Very typical response from your camp…belligerence without substance.

  • Gary

Really strange response considering your ENTIRE argument against homosexuality is the perfect example of doing so.

  • Lamont Cranston

Do you agree with the pervert Phil Robertson:

“You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16, they’ll pick your ducks. You need to check with mom and dad about that of course.”

  • Al Cruise

Or is he too scared to share his answers.

  • Gary

Please provide a source for this quote.

  • Lamont Cranston

You can hear pedophile Phil Robertson say it himself in a video located here:

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/12/29/duck-dynasty-star-girls-should-carry-a-bible-cook-and-marry-when-they-are-15/

It occurs around the one minute mark.

  • Gary

Thanks for the source. When listening to him speak it is clear he is ignorant and perhaps misogynistic as well. But to call him a pedophile as you just did is blatantly dishonest. How does such behavior help your argument?

  • Lamont Cranston

Blatantly dishonest? Really? How do you suppose people would be reacting if a gay man suggested marrying a 15 year old boy?

  • Gary

Do you not even care about honesty?? There is NO WAY you can try to promote the false accusation that Phil was suggesting HE wanted to marry a 15 year old girl. You are deliberately making a false and slanderous claim about the man and you know it. As I said before…what do you hope to accomplish by blatantly lying about him? How can we have any hope of intelligent dialogue when people like you run around and simply say ignorant shit like this?

You need to read up on the definition of pedophilia. It has absolutely nothing to do with two teenagers marrying young.

Come on people….sheesh. I think Phil robertson is an ignorant relic of an era coming to an end. But these lame attacks against him are as ignorant as what he himself has said.

  • Lamont Cranston

“Robertson and Marsha “Kay” Carroway started dating in 1964, when Kay was only 14 years old. They married two years later, in 1966. They had their first son, Alan, while they were attending college.”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Robertson

Let me know if you have a daughter; I know some guys she’d LOVE!

  • Gary

Dude seriously…either stop the deception or just shut the fuck up. They were both teenagers when they started dating and in an era when it was common for a 3-6 year gap to exist between men and women. My own father was nearly 6 years older than my mom. They were both young and it in no way reflects anything strange for that culture and most certainly has absolutely NOTHING to do with pedophilia. Every response reveals your ignorant bias more clearly than the last. Give it up…you look like a fool already.

  • Mark

OK. I’ve read the interview a couple of times; and, while it does sound pretty insensitive, I didn’t see anything I wouldn’t expect from relatively uneducated southerners. I’ve lived in Texas all my life, and this is – IMO – how a lot of people feel. So to me, Phil was just being honest, while somewhat uninformed and misguided. It’s a shame that most people look at life and say “that’s just the way it is” (with a nod to Bruce Hornsby), but it doesn’t necessarily mean they are turds.

I’m trying to view his comments through the lens of my grandmother, who would probably be thought a racial bigot today, but back in the 50′s and 60′s, when I was growing up, just believed the way most normal white people believed.

  • Cecilia Davidson

Pretty much convention. Also works as “Persons of Color”

  • Cecilia Davidson

You and your ilk use the bible to condemn gays. Talk about incorrect information.
