the death of God

the death of god cartoon by nakedpastor david hayward

God emptied himself. Theologically it is called "kenosis". God abandoned himself and died to himself on the cross. Christmas says that God desolated the God of Beyond and became Emmanuel, God with us. Easter seals the deal and slammed the door shut to the transcendent God of Beyond. The cries of Jesus asking why God had abandoned him show that God had, indeed, fully emptied himself of himself and died alienated forever from the separate God of the Heavens. Jesus wasn't a representative of God, … [Read more...]

gooder fridays

gooder fridays cartoon by nakedpastor david hayward

The Easter story declares that we live in a new reality. Everything has changed. Behold, it is a new creation. A new reality. A new way of being. It is the true fulfillment now in time of the Emanuel promise... God with us... no longer 'up there' high above separate in the heavens but now among us, with us, in us, through us, as us, the All in all, the through all things reconciling all to the All. As I explain in my z-theory, the story of the Incarnation announces the end of God's … [Read more...]

the z-theory in one page

In 2009 I had a dream that relieved my theological anxiety and brought peace: "There is a huge waterfall. Oceans of water pour over the rim of the cliff. The water tumbles down and explodes at the bottom. The deluge spreads over the land covering and consuming everything." “There is a huge waterfall. Oceans of water pour over the rim of the cliff.” We can’t see above the rim, but we can guess that it is an infinite source. There is no proof. Only evidence. We can’t even say it exists. … [Read more...]

mine all mine

Some talk about the Christ principal. I get it. If you've followed my z-theory at all, you will understand that I see the story of the incarnation as a powerful metaphor that attempts to describe reality. It resonates with me. However, I do not imagine it as a story of one religion dominating the world, as many do. Of course, Christianity isn't the only religion guilty of the ambition of world domination. It is the nature of all religions, Christianity included. (Many original cartoon drawings … [Read more...]

nakedpastor interviewed by Drew Marshall

Drew Marshall interviewed me last Saturday on live radio. I think Drew is an exceptional talent in the interview arena. He goes straight for the jugular and asked me some tough questions. I couldn't believe it when he started off with asking me about my z-theory, of all things! I enjoyed the interview and think it is a pretty good one. Please take a listen. Maybe you can put a voice to my written words and cartoons. Perhaps it might help you get a little more of a personal touch of who I … [Read more...]

my bible history

If you want to read more about my perspective on the bible, you can go here. Of course, as a Christian, the bible is the most beloved of all texts and holds the privileged position. I have two books on Amazon... one of just cartoons and one with cartoons and my thoughts about vision: CLICK HERE. … [Read more...]

how to be spiritual in the universe

I'm working on a list of discernments that one needs to embrace in order to be spiritual in the universe. I am a Christian, so my idea obviously emerges out of a Christian perspective. But it is inclusive of all walks, including religious, agnostic and atheist. My concern is that as we are being dragged into a more universal understanding of our religions and spiritualities, the adverse reaction is to particularize, polarize and propagandize. Here are the first three discernments that we must … [Read more...]

to judge is not to love

I was talking with an acquaintance today who is gay. I was telling him about my upcoming weekend in Dallas, speaking at Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas Texas. He was asking me why I was going there. I said it was because of my blog. He said, "You're a blogger? What's your blog?" I said, "Nakedpastor!" He exclaimed, "You're him?" I laughed because it struck me so funny because we've known each other so long and I never brought it up. I'm my own worst promoter! Ya, I'm "him"! Funny. … [Read more...]

i want to be 24/7

I want to contribute substantially to the theological and philosophical, as well as ecclesiological conversation. I don't have the time to study and write as I should (I have a full time job as an English teacher). My writing is not as substantial as it used to be. And my z-theory book lies dormant waiting for me to write it. I'm more focused now: I want to help people become and stay spiritually free and independent, even if they intentionally gather together. This is my passion. My cartoons … [Read more...]

should i start another church?

Yes, another startup. I've planted other churches before. So, here are some of my thoughts about soon starting another church community: Sunday night maybe? I don't want to compete with local churches. I miss that kind of fellowship. I feel the need to be in the game if I'm going to critique it with integrity. Several people have asked me to start one. I miss regular study and teaching and serious, lively discussion. I want to participate again in the experiment of healthy spiritual … [Read more...]
