The mainstream publishing platform is infamous for its lack of diversity and inclusion as well as pigeonholing the few minority authors in the industry.

NbA Muslim fiction authors Sahar Abdulaziz, Karimah Grayson and Umm Juwayriyah joined Layla Abdullah-Poulos on a live Twitter chat to discuss the significance of mainstream publishing to Muslim fiction.  In addition to the chat’s guests,  authors and writers from a range of backgrounds, including Papatia Feauxzar and Isra Ibrahim, responded to questions generated by a recent open call for queries from a consortium of non-Muslim literary agents. The consortium of agents launched the open call after 45 signed his immigration executive order, which adversely affected Muslims.

Authors assessed benefits and drawbacks to mainstream publishing and the need to continue to create and stabilized a Muslim literary platform.
