In a major speech last night, President Trump addressed Congress in his first presidential address there since taking office. Obviously with the turbulent first 40 days in office, there was a lot riding on this speech. Supporters were looking for Trump to reassure them and begin to truly step into the presidential mantle. Opponents were looking for another mistake they could nail into his coffin.

The speech last night seems to be generally praised, even by the media outlets who have been his biggest antagonists. One commentary in particular caught my eye and reminded of the absolute power and timelessness of God’s Word. Van Jones, CNN contributor and outspoken critic of President Trump, did an about face and generally praised Trump’s speech.

He highlighted one moment in the speech when Trump truly became presidential. It was the moment when President Trump praised the fallen Navy Seal and the entire Congress gave a standing ovation to his wife who was in attendance. It was a poignant moment of sacrifice, of remembrance, and unity around a common cause.

And President Trump launched that moment by quoting a verse from Scripture. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13) Now please hear me, this post isn’t about endorsing or condemning our current President. There are more than enough media outlets that can reinforce your opinions of Donald Trump. All I want to do is highlight the fact that God’s Word is powerful and timeless. Its truths still reach out 2000 years later, and it continues to impact even our national conscious.

Don’t wait for another presidential speech to open God’s Word. Do it today!
