A Plague of Angry Christians

Yesterday, during a spell when I momentarily forgot how angry Christians tend to be this time of year, I group-texted a dinner invite to a fairly wide circle of reasonably close friends with the intent of making sure everyone had a fun, safe place to be for a holiday meal on Sunday. My text went like this: Everybody have some place to be and have dinner with on Xmas day? We have room at our place. Just let me know… Read more

Nonreligious? Not So Much…

If you are reading this post (or the posts of my fellow bloggers at this channel on Patheos), then I’m certain you have noticed that the Patheos Atheist channel has rebranded itself as the Patheos NonReligious channel. The change was suggested by our channel manager, Dale McGowan, author of Atheists for Dummies , and you can read his take on the change here. I am an atheist. I also hold secular, humanist, freethinking, and skeptical values but I am above… Read more

Earthly Proof of Fake People

Speaking FRANK-ly About Jesus: Critique of alleged evidence of the historicity of Jesus of Nazareth. (Ed. Note: This is the 27th post in Frank Zindler’s Speaking Frankly About Jesus blog which is dedicated to the thesis that Jesus of Nazareth never existed. This is part S of a mini series debunking “The Myth of the Mythical Jesus”.) Lies: So short in stating, so long in negating! In the previous posting continuing the debunking of Philip Jenkins’ blog “The Myth of… Read more

Reindeer (War) Games

Editor’s Comment: NoGod Blog is BACK after a bit of an unplanned hiatus due in part to post-election blues and the unexpected intrusion of life events as life events sometimes tend to do.  Now that we are back, upcoming posts will include many more posts from Frank Zindler’s excellent series on fictional Jesus as well as commentary on the current events of the day. Thanksgiving is past us and we have entered the winter holiday season during which we will be hearing… Read more

The King of America and the Killing of Hope

I, like half our country, am terrified of what happens next. I’m already grieving for the troops that will be dying overseas a couple of years from now and for the millions of people we are going to kill and displace. I’m grieving for our citizens who will die within our borders, both because our “enemies” have the ability and the motivation to bring the fighting to our soil and because so many millions will lose their medical insurance. I’m… Read more

Medical Care is a Human Right

Last night, a close relative went to the emergency room by ambulance. The medical reasons are not relevant and she was treated and released after a few hours to go home with appointments for follow up care. This person is one of the lucky Americans who has good medical insurance so this emergency is not going to lead to her financial ruin. Her insurance, like that of most Americans who have good insurance, is entirely tied to her employment and… Read more

The Swamp of Historical Jesus Apologetics

Speaking FRANK-ly About Jesus: Critique of alleged evidence of the historicity of Jesus of Nazareth. (Ed. This is part Q of a mini series debunking “The Myth of the Mythical Jesus”.) Lies: So short in stating, so long in negating! In the previous posting in reply to Philip Jenkins’ “The Myth of the Mythical Jesus,” I… Read more

Trump’s Presidential Fantasies

Author’s Note: As always, I am speaking for myself and not for American Atheists or any other organization of which I am a present or past member. Somehow, I ended up on a mailing list from the Trump campaign. Either they bought my email address from some data aggregator or someone signed me up as a prank but either way, these emails have been both illuminating and distressing. The latest one I received outlines what Trump says he will do… Read more

Christianity’s Frauds and Dishonesty

Speaking FRANK-ly About Jesus: Critique of alleged evidence of the historicity of Jesus of Nazareth. (Ed. Note: This is the 24d post in Frank Zindler’s Speaking Frankly About Jesus blog which is dedicated to the thesis that Jesus of Nazareth never existed. This is part P of a mini series debunking “The Myth of the Mythical Jesus”.) Lies: So short in stating, so long in negating! We have seen that in Judaism, the word “Lord” was a substitute for YHWH, the… Read more
