A Madman Comes to Power (Part 3)

A guest post by Frank Zindler.During the Republican primaries and the general election campaign of 2016, Donald Trump’s outré behavior and comments caused many careful observers and analysts to notice that there was something particularly unusual in his public statements concerning Russia and its strongman Vladimir Putin. Trump never had anything but praise for Putin, and Putin was reciprocating in a very flattering way. Then it became apparent that Trump’s bucket list of “things to do” was i … [Read more...]

Crusaders for Antitheism

Over the past couple of weeks, several NonReligious Channel bloggers at Patheos have made spirited posts concerning the role antitheism plays in our atheist community. Martin Hughes at Barrier Breaker got the conversation started but several others have made their own contributions to the discussion. Martin's first post was to explain why he is no longer an antitheist and then the others chimed in for and against the merits of the antitheist position. For the record, I am an antitheist. I … [Read more...]

The King of America and the Killing of Hope

I, like half our country, am terrified of what happens next. I’m already grieving for the troops that will be dying overseas a couple of years from now and for the millions of people we are going to kill and displace. I’m grieving for our citizens who will die within our borders, both because our “enemies” have the ability and the motivation to bring the fighting to our soil and because so many millions will lose their medical insurance. I’m grieving for the environment, the climate, and the econ … [Read more...]

The Wonders of a Woman Card

According to Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton apparently possesses a superpower called "the woman card" that gives her access to political advantages allegedly denied to the male presidential candidates. It is his contention that without this superpower, she would not otherwise be a viable presidential candidate.I can only assume deployment of the "women card" is a superpower available to all women, but what exactly is the nature of this superpower?  Does it keep women from being sexually … [Read more...]

Onward Christian Soldiers (to Fun in the Sun…)

The Army’s Strong Bonds program “is a unit-based, chaplain-led program which assists commanders in building individual resiliency by strengthening the Army Family. The core mission of the Strong Bonds program is “to increase individual Soldier and Family member readiness through relationship education and skills training. Strong Bonds is conducted in an offsite retreat format in order to maximize the training effect. The retreat or “get away” provides a fun, safe, and secure environment in which … [Read more...]

Pat Robertson’s Woman Warrior Bondage Fetish

There are a lot of issues worthy of discussion and debate concerning the upcoming deployment of women into expanded roles in military combat jobs but anything that comes out of Pat Robertson’s mouth isn’t among them.On a recent edition of the 700 Club, Robertson equated women who wanted to serve in combat with a masochistic bondage fetish and that since he’s “been there and done that” he knows combat “ain’t something for a woman”.How does he know that? Back in the 1980s when he was runnin … [Read more...]

Cruz Crap-Fest Part 2: The Cruzpocalypse

It took a few days to get the bad taste out of my mouth from my last trip to Cruzville, but there is more stuff in the issues section of his campaign website that I want to discuss.5. Support for Israel. Cruz talks about full, unequivocal support for Israel and it’s policies and makes clear his anti-Palestinian stance. But what he doesn’t report is the religious foundation behind his support for Israel. Cruz and his ilk believe in bolstering Israel not because they care about Israel or Jews b … [Read more...]

Veterans and the militia “movement”…

In the last few days, there have been significant developments towards ending the militia wildlife refuge theft in Oregon. Several militia members have been arrested and at least one is confirmed killed. A determined handful, minus anything resembling leadership, remain defiant at the refuge at the time of this writing although there has been some whining about how they would leave if they wouldn't be arrested. However, they apparently don't believe they can leave without being arrested which is … [Read more...]

Domestic Terrorists Versus the US Military (the Oregon Way)

I'm happy to announce the relaunch of the NoGodBlog which has been off line due to internet access issues from my rural home base.  The problem has been resolved and to get this rolling, I'm starting with my belated comments on the Oregon militia occupation situation.  By now, pretty much everybody who pays attention to the news in any capacity is aware that a federal wildlife center in Oregon has been taken over by an anti-government militia group.(via Bing images)The bottom line is … [Read more...]

Does cultural relativism justify child rape?

A few days ago, I was horrified to read a piece about the U.S. military allegedly being forced to look away and take no action against Afghani men who were raping children and that some U.S. service members faced punishments for intervening.(credit: vector clipart online via Pinterest)I was further appalled to read via the comments section and elsewhere that there are people in this country who seem to believe that since this activity is part of a “culture” not our own, it can’t be ev … [Read more...]
