I don't think adding male stereotypes helps. I think that even when a person isn't an authoritarian control-freak like this husband, it is very difficult to continue to love someone for whom anyone teaches their spouse to be a doormat, and the spouse complies, then respect is lost, and after respect-- love. Also, it is human nature to lose interest in something that ceases to be challenging. It's not so much about the chase-- it's about the challenge. Challenge is lost when you live with someone who meekly complies with your every whim. I agree. I don’t think adding male stereotypes helps.
