The Minimization of the homemaker’s role has been a priority of the feminist movement for decades. Feminist advocates have sought to down play the maternal desires of women and bread down the ties that bind a mother to her home and children. French author and feminist Simone de Beauvoir warned her fellow feminists that if they were to be successful in their agenda, they must destroy “maternity and maternity instincts” in women. She went on to say:
“No woman should be authorized to stay at home and raise her children. Society should be totally different. Women should not have that choice, precisely because if there is such a choice, too many women will make that one.”
