Quoting Quiverfull: Black People Need to Shut Up and Endure? February 21, 2017

quotingquiverfullby Garrett Kell of John Piper’s β€˜Desiring God’ – It’s a Wonderful Tim to Be Christian!

Editor’s note: Reading this piece I don’t know if I should laugh, cry or throw up! Only a young white male Evangelical brimming with Evangelical white entitlement would be tone deaf and insensitive enough to lecture another race on how they should approach the racism in the world, and let’s be very real here, in the church directed at their people.Β

Β

He makes a good point later on in the unquoted part of this piece – that Americans need to reach out to the immigrants of our nation, including Muslims, with love and acceptance. Too bad most of the post is pure poison.

BlackΒ brothers and sisters, I encourage you toward a resilient faith. Many of your forefathers endured oppression, were denied membership in white churches, and grew despite a lack of access to theological education. We need to see that resilience now. Systems of injustice will not be corrected overnight, which means that testing will continue. But as tests come, please ensure that your hearts are being purified and not petrified. White Christians are not your enemy. Jesus says they are family. The Lord calls us to β€œhope” all things, including the best in fellow believers, even when we hurt, confuse, or disappoint each other.

On the other hand, we must sayΒ Jesus is enough, for heΒ himself is our peace.

We have already been reconciled in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:16–20).Β While laboring to apply this reconciliation takes hard work, we must remember that he has made us one β€” even if we don’t feel like it (Ephesians 4:1–3). The peace JesusΒ provides is strong enough toΒ hold back the gates of hell and weather the storm we face today.

The world does not have anΒ answer like Jesus.Β They have no power and no lasting solutions. But we have an opportunity toΒ show them the unity that Jesus prayed for andΒ purchased with his blood (John 17:20–21).

At the cross alone, fear mongering, finger pointing,Β andΒ apathetic indifference are put to death, and real reconciliation comes to life.

QUOTING QUIVERFULL is a regular feature of NLQ – we present the actual words of noted Quiverfull leaders, cultural enforcers and those that seek to keep women submitted to men and ask our readers: What do you think? Agree? Disagree? This is the place to state your opinion. Please, let’s keep it respectful – but at the same time, we encourage readers to examine the ideas of Quiverfull and Spiritual Abuse honestly and thoughtfully.
