Answering ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’ – How To Say No To A Guy?

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical,  rational and the best possible solution, in other words 1 … [Read more...]

It’s Not That Complicated: Part 2 Chapter 9

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideAll quotes from the book in blue text.In addition to questionable dialogue, this chapter feels like the Botkin Sisters were trying to expand the book from where all the topics were naturally spent to some unspecified length. In other words, this chapter is pretty much a repeat of Chapters 6 + 7.  There is one new topic - and it pissed me off - but the Botkin Sisters view on female intelligence wasn't an actual surprise. … [Read more...]

It’s Not That Complicated: Part 1 Chapter 9

by Mel cross posted from her blog when Cows and Kids CollideAll quotes from the book are in blue text.I think the hardest genre of writing is satire.  Finding a workable balance between sympathy and criticism requires walking a razor edge.Chapter Nine, which is titled "Rules of Engagement: Practical Tips on Interaction and Conversation", includes dialogue that is either poor satire or insulting as hell. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Getting to Know Your Intended Spouse?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy - Young Adults and Marriage Part 2Editor's note: It's a sad day when the courtship advice on how to meet and get to know who you want to marry from Michael Pearl sounds super healthy after Vaughn Ohlman's hour long betrothal meetings. One correction on Michael's words here - the Amish and the Mennonites are not the same thing as he's lumped them together here. They are similar, like pears and apples are close, but not the exact same thing. … [Read more...]

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideAll quotes from the book are in blue text.On a serious note, this post may be triggering for abuse or trauma victims. It's time for BIBLE BABBLE starring Anna Sophia and Elizabeth Botkin! In previous episodes, our gracious hostesses have told us about why women have no agency outside of men, why loving your brothers means your literal biological brothers, why Biblical heroines are following the Botkin plan with a special emphasis on Abigail and Bathsheba, and their personal obsession with the Proverbs 7 woman. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Courtship is ‘Safer’ Than Dating?

by Rowina Seidler as quoted by Ladies Against Feminism from Ruby in the Rough - Courtship vs BoyfriendsEditor's note: No where in this article does the author come out and give that hoary old untrue Christian trope about giving away pieces of your heart, but it's a close thing. Sounds like her idea of courtship does not involve developing feelings or attraction to a guy, it sounds more like an extended job interview. … [Read more...]

It’s Not That Complicated: Part 1 Chapter 8

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids CollideAll quotes from the book are in blue textThe title of Chapter Eight is "That's Why You Have Parents: How to Draw Strength, Wisdom, and Protection From Your Father and Mother".Chapter Eight has the dubious honor of the second-most overwrought history lesson in the book.  (I think the "Western civilization is being undermined by evil Socialists" section of chapter three wins for the entire book. ) … [Read more...]
