Quoting Quiverfull: Covering Your Rear?

by Roxy from Living From Glory to Glory - Women Wearing Pants Everywhere We can be so vain or more, focused on comfort that we can forget about dressing in a feminine way, where only a dress or a skirt, might be a better choice of clothing. Why is it that some ladies will not ever wear a skirt or dress? This is not a matter of legalism. But rather maybe a dress code!Years ago it was considered rude not to dress in proper way!Dinner, Dates, Holidays, CHURCH...Will we make a choice to help turn the tide; Wear a skirt or dress and say NO to pants for just the sake of, Keeping skirts and dresses the choice of clothing for ladies onlyAs it stands it is the only thing we … [Read more...]

“Real Marriage” by Mark Driscoll: review xi-xiv Preface and Introduction

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Defeating The Dragons Ok, so I read four pages of Real Marriage this morning. There’s eleven chapters, so with that plus covering the preface and introduction today, I’m going to try to wrap this up in three months and avoid as much of the “multiple weeks dedicated to one chapter” thing that happened a few times with Captivating. I don’t think you or I could handle it. Like Fascinating Womanhood and Captivating, Real Marriage will inevitably have statements that I agree with, mostly because they’re common sense. And, the first time I read these pages this morning, I thought I could agree with a good portion of what he said in the preface, which i … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: When Did Home Cooking Get Elevated to “Godly” Status?

Very interesting. Apparently Slate magazine posted a piece by a female writer who dared *gasp!* to say that putting a home cooked meal on the table nightly wasn't necessary and to stop fetishizing the entire idea. The ladies at Ladies Against Feminism became so outraged by that statement that they had to refute it not once, but twice on the same day. I am posting bits of each. Tell me what you think. Tempest in a teapot of the end of civilization as we know it?The article from Salon and the quoted pieces they seemed to object to the most Let's Stop Idealizing the Home-cooked Family Dinner by Amanda Marcotte … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Protecting Your Heart Against Men?

by Jasmine Baucham (daughter of Voddie Baucham) at Ladies Against Feminism - The Boundaries of a Wise HeartPlease be sure to read the entirety of this fascinating look at the thought processes that segregate men and women in the Fundamentalist / Evangelical / Quiverfull movement at Ladies Against Feminism. All right, but, really: Annie could have discussed her standards frankly and openly with her parents: was she truly guarding her heart? Was she setting herself up for disappointment? Was she allowing this young man too much freedom with her? The kind of young man we want won’t be trying to get in through the back door: he will be willing to go through the proper channels to claim a … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Keeping Your Wandering Feet (and Vagina) Home?

by Vaughn Ohlman of True Love Doesn't Wait - Wandering FeetWe haven't visited Mr. Ohlman in quite some time, but he seems to be under the mistaken impression that one of the recent QQ pieces where we were quoting Nancy Campbell of Above Rubies as well as other women was something he posted.Nope, the last time we posted anything by Vaughn was way back in February, mere days after St. Valentines Day - Being A Stay At Home Mom Stops Affairs. Here's a hint, it doesn't! That was the only time Matthew Henry has come up on NLQ. Von, adjust your calender or stop doing whatever it is that is robbing you of your sense of time/date/reality.In that piece we were discussing Titus 2 and … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Abandoning Their Souls?

by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies - Strong in Spirit Let's pray, "Oh Father, I don't want my soul to be shallow. I want it to be satiated and filled with wisdom from your Word and the revelation of the Holy Spirit. I want to be a filler of my children's souls, too. Please save me from neglecting my own soul and the souls of my children. I can love their personalities and their chubby little bodies and yet abandon their souls and their spirits. Please prick me in my heart when I am prone to do this. I don't want them to only have healthy bodies, and yet starved spirits. I want them to grow strong and mighty in the Lord. Amen." … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Media Hiding Birth Control Truth?

by Meghan McNally from Ladies Against Feminism and the Catholic Vote - A New Cancer Study - And The Media Can't Handle The TruthOn August 1, a cancer study, published in The Journal of Cancer Research and conducted by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, stated that there is evidence that the link between oral contraceptives and breast cancer may in fact be greater than previous studies had indicated. Since the study was first published, there has been a flurry of activity as some writers more eager to defend birth control than to educate women are tripping over themselves and the available data to assure their reading public that the study is, in fact, insignificant.  With Dou … [Read more...]

News: Ending Rape Culture Because Bible?

by Gina Miller at BarbWire - Godlessness, Safety Nail Polish and 'Rape Culture'We've talked here at NLQ quite a bit about Purity Culture and Rape Culture and how modesty is not the answer to fixing the problem of rape in this country. The message that the religious right is pushing to address these problems is still the same old, same old that doesn't work. … [Read more...]
