Quoting Quiverfull: Are You ‘Righteous’ Enough?

righteous home

by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies - What Does It Take?"Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people"(Proverbs 14:34). We can only have a righteous nation as we have righteous homes. We can only have righteous homes as we have righteous mothers and fathers in living in those homes and who are raising righteous children. QUOTING QUIVERFULL is a regular feature of NLQ – we present the actual words of noted Quiverfull leaders and ask our readers: What do you think? Agree? Disagree? This is the place to state your opinion. Please, let’s keep it respectful – but at the same time, we encourage readers to examine the ideas of Quiverfull and Spiritual Abuse honestly and t … [Read more...]

Kevin Swanson, Child Abuse, And Dead Little Bunnies

swanson

Reposted from Homeschoolers Anonymous HA note: Kathi is a Bible-belt midwest transplant to the beautiful Pacific northwest. After homeschooling her kids for 10 years (she decided that high school math and science were not her strongest subjects), both kids are in public school. She is a former church goer and finds herself in that unstudied demographic of middle-aged Nones. She has a B.A. in Urban Ministry and a M.S.W. Her goal is to work with children who have been abused or are in foster care. She loves to knit, cook and read (not in any particular order). The following was originally published on Kathi’s blog Moving Beyond Absolutes on April 5, 2014 and is reprinted with permission.  I h … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Protecting Your Courting Daughter in a Pornified (not real word!) World

Continuing on from this mornings "Pride & Prejudice" moment, Mr. Bingley courting and proposing to Jane Bennett. Jane is much closer to the Evangelical Christian ideal of a 'Godly' unmarried woman than her sister Elizabeth

by RVD from the blog The Christian Pundit - Of Course Courtship is Fundamentally FlawedWonder if the admin at The Christian Pundit realizes that the definition of 'Pundit' is "an expert in a particular subject or field who is frequently called on to give opinions about it to the public." Experts usually do not make up words or misspell others. Who exactly is calling on these 'experts'for their opinions? The name of the site is deceptive. … [Read more...]

CTBHHM: Your Husband Can’t Cover For You

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismCreated To Be His Help Meet, pp. 216—217In this section, we see the alternative to the “good woman” Debi outlined in her three examples last week. In that passage she spoke of men who are lazy, or bad fathers, or dishonest, and informed women who may be wives of these men that it is their duty to cover for their husbands’ faults and make them appear faultless to the world. This week she speaks of women who are spendthrifts, or who leave their children with sitters, or who take advantage of others’ time and resources (her equivalent of each category for males). … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: The Return of Women’s Sexual Honor?

When I see LAF and others of their ilk putting Elizabeth Bennett on a pedestal as the ideal of Christian womanhood I have to wonder if we actually read the same version of "Pride & Prejudice" as Lizzie is feisty and independent, nothing like a Titus 2 woman.

Apostate: Jeremy Bentham (Chapter 7) AKA Kevin Swanson on Homosexuality. Again.

bentham

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open Ground Trigger Warning/Content note: Homophobia, hatred, denial, and emotionally abusive language. I return to review Kevin Swanson’s book Apostate. This time, we turn to chapter 7, entitled “Forming the Humanist Ethic.” This chapter focuses primarily on Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832) with some discussion of John Stuart Mill (1806-1873), and Bertrand Russell (1872-1970). I have begun to notice a few trends in Apostate. Each chapter highlights a different apostate, but it also highlights a different “sin” or current issue that Swanson wants to emphasize, condemn or rant about. For example: Descartes’ focused on the sin of fortification. Locke … [Read more...]
