Stories of Demons on the Missions Field

excercism

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open Ground Growing up, my family was not particularly superstitious about demons, ghosts, and spirits. There was a reason for this. We were influenced by the Reformed Tradition. My dad does not believe in a rapture, tribulation, or 1,000 year reign. He believes the 1000 year reign is symbolic of the current age, that Satan and his demons were bound up at the cross, and that they can roar and scare us, but they cannot possess us or hurt us. This does not mean I grew up with no fear of evil forces; indeed, we were taught that we had sin dwelling in our bodies, and that sin was always trying to pull us down. But we did not believe that there were … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Letting Boys Be Boys Best Accomplished With Homeschooling?

hatingschool

by some unnamed LAF Editor because Ladies Against Feminism has stopped putting some of the authors names on their pieces. From Ladies Against Feminism -  Stop the War on Boys in Classrooms - Homeschool Boys have little patience for wasting their lives putting in their time and working counter-intuitively to their calling and purpose. Schools are the factory of feminism. Boys who don’t sit well with this are normal. No wonder they are treated like defective girls. … [Read more...]

Cults and Cult Behaviors

cult

by Suzanne Titkemeyer Yesterday over on Reddit someone submitted the question: [Serious] Former cult members or friends of cult members of Reddit, what is you creepiest, scariest or most disturbing story and is that what made you leave? ...and the answers poured in. There was even talk of some cult activity in the Islamic realm, Jehovah Witness', Moonies,Hari Krishna, Catholicism  and Scientology along with a great deal of scary postings about fundamental evangelical Christianity. All of it is a fascinating read. Someone had this to say about their time in the Independent Fundamentalist Baptist college Hyles-Anderson about the fact that convicted sex offender Jack Schaap having keys … [Read more...]

This is What Happens When a “Good Christian” Replies….

by Suzanne Titkemeyer  Most of you have been following SJ Reidhead's series Christian Reconstruction, ATI, Abuse and Submission: Modesty and Lust, here and at her blog The Pink Flamingo , that sprang out of NLQ's posting in Quoting Quiverfull of the take of modesty of one Stephanus Blignaut. It's been an interesting read because it's pretty clear that SJ is better educated and knowledgeable on the history of fashion and modesty than Mr. Blignaut. Stephanus Blignaut has no historical basis for his thoughts, only---you guessed it---The Bible!! … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The Prophet Part 4b

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids Collide I'm gonna keep slogging through this chapter. "He will easily pick up and relocated without any idea of what he is going to do for a living at the new location." That ended really well for the Pearls. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Scripture is Holy Sperm?

seed

by Michael Pearl from his book "Holy Sex"  about halfway through the book. He's speaking of bring 'Born Again' and referencing the book of John and how it all relates to our sexuality. (Sorry, my Kindle will not give me page numbers for this book!) "The believer has the power to overcome sin because of the seed---just like the sperm that generated life---which is the Word of God, remains in him. He is a new creature. Since God compares the words of Holy Scripture to male sperm, it must be that the human reproductive process is created in the image of divine realities." … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The Prophet Part 4a

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids Collide In this chapter, we get a series of stories and anecdotes about what living with a Prophet/Visionary Man is like.  I am certain 90% of these stories come from Debi's actual life with Mike Pearl...and that's depressing. I'm just going to go sequentially from the beginning of the chapter where Debi has spoken about how an unbalanced Prophet/Visionary Man can get the whole family upset over issues. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: It’s Not Called a Uterus?

namecalling

As a companion with yesterdays Quoting Quiverfull by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies - What Do You Call Your Womb? Some time ago I asked if readers would like to share different words they use for a baby growing in the "womb" or meanings of the word "womb." Here are the ones that were sent to me: “chalice” “home of compassion” (The Arabic, Turkish, and Hebrew word for “womb” is the same word as mercy or compassion) … [Read more...]

by Kristen Rosser cross posted from her blog Wordgazer's Words This Fourth of July, I have a confession to make. I used to wake up every Independence Day morning with "God Bless America" on my lips.  I used to feel a thrill of excitement and reverence when I faced the flag and pledged allegiance, when I put my hand over my heart and sang along with The Star-Spangled Banner. I still say the Pledge.  I still put my hand over my heart, and I still sing the National Anthem. I still love America. … [Read more...]

Christian Reconstruction, ATI, Abuse, and Submisson: Modesty and Lust Part 7

texasmess

by SJ Reidhead cross posted from her blog The Pink Flamingo This is the response to the comment I submitted, dealing with the article about censoring cowboy culture.  Stephanus Blignaut is a missionary in South Africa.  In my family, we have a very soft spot for missionaries, especially those in Africa.  During the late 1940s my  uncle and his wife were missionaries to Sudan.  His oldest son was born there.  As long as he lived, my uncle always had a special love for Africa and the people.  He came to believe, though, that simply telling people about Christ was useless, unless you first gave them food, medicine, clean water, and a safe place to live.  Once their needs were met, … [Read more...]
