Quoting Quiverfull: Not Having Babies is Equal to Arguing With God?

by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies - Dare We Argue With God? God's creation of our bodies is perfect, yet it seems that man often thinks he knows better than God. Our great Creator blessed us with a womb to conceive and bring forth children. And yet many women hardly want to acknowledge they have a womb. If they do, they take action to make sure that it cannot function as God intended. Men also stop the function of their fertility to their own detriment. Many think that by having a tubal ligation or vasectomy they are saving their lives. The opposite is the case. When we try to save our lives we lose them. When we lose our lives for Christ's sake, we find them (Mark 8:35). Our own way … [Read more...]

Matthew 18 and Spiritual Abuse

by Kristen Rosser cross posted from her blog Wordgazer's WordsI have been asked a few times over the last several months to do a blog post on Matthew 18:15-17, where Jesus teaches about what to do if a member of a Christian group is committing wrongs that are harmful enough that they cannot be overlooked.  Here's the text, from the 2011 NIV: “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they r … [Read more...]

Apostate: Jean-Jacques Rousseau – Chapter 6

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open Ground In today’s review, I will discuss chapter 6 of Kevin Swanson’s book Apostate. In this chapter, Kevin Swanson intensely unravels his special dislike for Rousseau, more so than any of the other “apostates” discussed in the previous chapters.  In part, I understand. Rousseau was not a man of integrity and honor. As Swanson discusses, Rousseau abandoned his children at an orphanage, in order to devote himself to his work, and he cheated on his lifelong partner. Certainly I share concerns that Rousseau never raised his children, and even greater concerns for the part of Rousseau’s life that Swanson does not narrate (for example: Rousseau t … [Read more...]

A Dusty Letter

by Kaleesha Williams cross posted from her blog The Lost (And Found) Mind of Kaleesha Williams This afternoon while Denny and I were rearranging our bedroom a bit, I found a dusty letter on a shelf. I recognized my own handwriting. Well, it’s always interesting to come across notes of a writer tucked away here and there, even if the writer is myself. I’m a curious sort. I dusted it off and read it aloud to Denny. It was addressed to my heavenly father, Yahweh. (And like a good girl I’d written the date on it.) … [Read more...]
