Sunday Shout Out Replies: If I Love My Husband

lovinghusband

Answers to last week's question: If I love my husband.... Independent Thinker: If I love my husband I will.................. Leave the house to run errands, Christmas shop, or get my hair done during all Green Bay Packer games that do not fall on a holiday so my husband can watch the game in peace. I will not text him at work because he has a real job that requires him to go to all day conferences or sit thru five hour meetings. My text messaging would effect his job performance and he needs to be focused at work most of the day. I will prioritize taking care of my health because I don't want to burden him with preventable health problems that could have been addressed before they got … [Read more...]

by Calulu cross posted from her blog True Love Doesn't Rape True Love Doesn't Wait author Von Ohlman has been taking on the writings of one Michael Pearl, author of "To Train Up A Child" and founder of No Greater Joy Ministry. You remember To "Train Up A Child" don't you? That child training book that has been blamed for the beating and starvation death of adoptive child Hana Grace Williams and the deaths of a few other children?  The trial of Hana's adoptive parents started last week. They'd been charged with murder, as they well should be. Michael Pearl and his cruel book also hold some culpability in my mind. But back to the subject. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: The Groom’s View

Quotes1-300x250

by Joshua Ohlman at his father Vaughn Ohlman's site True Love Doesn't Wait - Betrothal Announcement Here is the announcement  that Joshua sent to his home church in Lubbock: Proverbs 18:22 “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.” I would like to praise God for making me a recipient of the blessings found in the verse above. A week ago Friday I had the incredible blessing of flying to Michigan and meeting and betrothing to myself a wonderful woman who had been known as Laura Camp, and who we now call Laura Ohlman (betrothed). … [Read more...]

Then Why Didn’t You Tell Us That, Mom?

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love Joy Feminism and Homeschoolers Anonymous “I want you to know that I never actually believed everything in those Above Rubies magazines,” my mom told me when I was visiting home a while back. “Then why didn’t you tell us that, mom?” I asked. “I read every issue of that magazine cover to cover, and I always thought it was completely approved material.” I don’t know why my mother made that admission to me when she did. … [Read more...]

Escaping the Emotional Damage of Our Fundamentalist Christian Past

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Way Forward Maybe. If a person is a relative newcomer to Christian Fundamentalism, and they decide to leave it for a non-Fundamentalist Christian religion, another religion, or atheism, I think it is likely quite easy to view their Fundamentalist past as nothing more than a blip in their life.  However, for those of us who were raised up in Christian Fundamentalism and spent years attending Fundamentalist churches, it is much harder for us to escape. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Teen Pregnancy?

Quotes1-300x250

by Vaughn Ohlman from True Love Doesn't Wait - Teen Pregnancy We had great news from one of our friends the other day: one of their teenagers was pregnant! (Yeah, read that again. I actually said it. No, I wasn’t kidding. Good news: teen… pregnant.) It used to be that a pregnant teen was a cause for congratulations. The whole church would gather around her and congratulate her. Oh, wait, I left something out. They would gather around her… and her husband. … [Read more...]

CTBHHM: The Proverbs 31 Woman Served Her Husband

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love Joy Feminism Created To Be His Help Meet, pp. 114-116 Proverbs 31 defines the virtuous woman. She is NOT a mousy, voiceless prude. She is confident, hardworking, creative, and resourceful. In this section, Debi examines Proverbs 31. For those who may not know, Proverbs 31 is a poem about a virtuous woman whose “price is far above rubies.” Evangelicals are quick to hold the Proverbs 31 woman up as a model for women to emulate. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Mental Illness is Self Focus?

Quotes1-300x250

by John Piper from desiring God - 10 Resolutions for Mental Health That night Dr. Kilby had a pastoral heart and a poet’s eye. He pled with us to stop seeking mental health in the mirror of self-analysis, but instead to drink in the remedies of God in nature. He was not naïve. He knew of sin. He knew of the necessity of redemption in Christ. But he would have said that Christ purchased new eyes for us as well as new hearts. His plea was that we stop being unamazed by the strange glory of ordinary things. He ended that lecture in 1976 with a list of resolutions. As a tribute to my teacher and a blessing to your soul, I offer them for your joy. … [Read more...]
