You Can Probably Guess What the Founder of “Biblical Counseling” Said About Domestic Violence

homeschoolersanonymous

by R. L. Stollar cross posted from Homeschoolers AnonymousJay E. Adams is the founder of the “nouthetic counseling” movement, or what has become known as “biblical counseling” (though it is unworthy of being called either “biblical” or “counseling” in my opinion). Popularized by Adams’ seminal book Competent to Counsel, nouthetic counseling is based on the assumption that counseling should be based solely upon the Bible. This movement rejects mainstream psychology and therapeutic methods as secular and atheistic and thus ungodly. … [Read more...]

Ken Cuccinelli, HSLDA, and Identification Abuse

by R.L. Stollar, community coordinator for Homeschoolers Anonymous. Cross posted from Homeschoolers Anonymous Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is a homeschooling father and long-time political favorite of homeschooling leaders. He has keynoted for Generation Joshua, HSLDA’s youth mobilization organization. And to return the favor, 200 Generation Joshua participants — funded by HSLDA’s political action committee — launched “an early deployment to work with the Cuccinelli campaign [for the Virginia Governorship]” in 2013. This deployment was codenamed “Operation: Shock and Awe” and paired with a Mission Impossible-themed video: … [Read more...]

6 Things You Should Know About Voddie Baucham

voddie

by R.L. Stollar, HA Community Coordinator,  cross posted from Homeschoolers Anonymous Due to the controversy over the lack of indictment of Darren Wilson in the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, American Christians are having heated conversations about racism in the United States. One of these conversations was provoked by an article written by Voddie Baucham for The Gospel Coalition. Baucham’s article, entitled “Thoughts on Ferguson”, was immediately criticized by fellow conservative Christian Thabiti Anyabwile. Today four Christian leaders of color — Austin Channing Brown, Christena Cleveland, Drew Hart and Efrem Smith — condemned Baucham for an “assault on black people” that w … [Read more...]

Facing Our Fears: How the Voices of Homeschooling Alumni Can Help Homeschooling

facing-our-fears-cover

This is the presentation that Homeschoolers Anonymous and HARO's R. L. Stollar would have given had he been allowed to participate in the 2014 Great Homeschool Convention that took place in Ontario, California. Too bad GHC bowed to fear and pressure from within the homeschooling movement and rescinded their permission for Stollar to participate in the conference. It is a powerful presentation and would have been helpful to those at the conference to hear. From the Homeschoolers Anonymous site:by R.L. StollarFacing Our Fears: How the Voices of Homeschool Alumni Can Help Homeschooling was originally prepared by R.L. Kevin Swanson, Child Abuse, And Dead Little Bunnies

swanson

Reposted from Homeschoolers Anonymous HA note: Kathi is a Bible-belt midwest transplant to the beautiful Pacific northwest. After homeschooling her kids for 10 years (she decided that high school math and science were not her strongest subjects), both kids are in public school. She is a former church goer and finds herself in that unstudied demographic of middle-aged Nones. She has a B.A. in Urban Ministry and a M.S.W. Her goal is to work with children who have been abused or are in foster care. She loves to knit, cook and read (not in any particular order). The following was originally published on Kathi’s blog Moving Beyond Absolutes on April 5, 2014 and is reprinted with permission.  I h … [Read more...]

Stollar of HARO and Homeschoolers Anonymous on the recent article in World Magazine on 'The Homeschool Debate' August 22, 2014 Statement by the Board of Homeschool Alumni Reaching Out: We are grateful to both WORLD Magazine and Daniel James Devine for the opportunity to be interviewed for their recent “Homeschool debate” article. Abuse and neglect in homeschooling are serious and pressing issues that need to be addressed for both the sake of children and alumni as well as the health of the homeschooling movement in general. There has been a severe lack of coverage of abuse and neglect in homeschooling by Christian news sources. We commend WORLD and Mr. Devine for shedding some ligh … [Read more...]
