Millipede Part 33 How Did I Get Here? Part 4

sweettrap

by MillipedeI think that a lot of women traveled the gradual route. It is the sweetest way into the trap.In my case I can say that one of the bigger issues lies within the sociopolitical cosmos itself. For example, feminism exists in alliance with other causes such as affirmative action and gun control. A similar linkage of various views occurs on the right. In my case while I believed that women should have basic equal rights as men I held other views that were verboten in the Liberal/Progressive circle in which I was raised and schooled. This led me to search elsewhere.Even then, I could have stayed out of Patriarchy. However, it was the reawakening interest in the Bible and … [Read more...]

Millipede Part 32 How Did I Get Here? Part 3

howdidIget here

by MillipedeIn my case, the path started when I became involved in various "patriot" groups.Ironically, I was at first very careful to weed out the chauvinists and the misogynists. How women were viewed and treated was a make or break issue with me. My husband at the time was like most "average" guys meaning that he believed(or claimed to) gender equality to some degree. As in my previous experience, it was a mixed bag, some people were great, but sure enough we ran into a few rabid patriarchs. I remember one man, a preacher saying that women who were serving in the army ought to be ashamed of themselves and should instead, be at home changing diapers. Afterwords, my husband and I … [Read more...]

Millipede: Part 12

couchpotato

by MillipedeIn truth, our Pastor was going through a period of soul searching. In the years that we first met him, certain issues had driven him into the Patriot movement which in turn had exposed him to different variants of Christianity. Now, not quite a decade later, his experiences had found him wanting. He liked our church and the people in it, but he had also seen a lot of people leave in a huff. The hair splitting, the people who shied away from organized churches; coming from a traditional fundamentalist background, he felt that most people in the Patriot movement wanted to be a law unto themselves. He felt that they were Christian only on the surface and that they used it to … [Read more...]

Millipede: Part 3

modesty

by MillipedeMy story continued...Things were exciting in the beginning. What married woman wouldn't be happy that her husband was "getting religion". With fidelity, love, hard work and a host of other laudable virtues to be practiced by a believer it was a dream come true. It was at that time, even in the early days before the new church group began that I noticed things. Back then as the patriot activities waned and our religious interest was catching fire, distance kept us from attending home church with our new circle of friends. So we did the next best thing which was attend church locally. Even if we didn't agree with all of the doctrine, we still enjoyed the … [Read more...]

Millipede: Part Two

by MillipedeEventually, the church building materialized. At first, we had a larger group. Soon however, there was a falling out with a group which had comprised most of those from the Patriot group. Part of it was personality and some of it was viewpoint. Some wanted to the place to be a patriot type meeting house while some wanted it to be a church. This belied a rift that plays itself over again and again in this end of the spectrum. On one hand there are what I would call the "political types". This is simply for lack of a better term and is not indicative of a lack of Faith. People within this group were most often led into church via ideological means. Their religious views are … [Read more...]

Where’s your shame, woman?!

Popular conservative Christian pastor says "America is over" because shameless women who have sex and vote are running wild and screwing everything up.by Vyckie GarrisonEver wonder what goes on inside the small minds of fundamentalist Christian men? Want to know how they justify their blatant anti-woman policies and practices? Are they for real? Do they even know how hateful and intolerably ignorant they sound? Thanks to Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, a conservative black pastor and up-and-coming Republican leader, there's now a YouTube video which perfectly sums up the Religious Right's core beliefs about women."One thing I know for sure, without a doubt, women cannot handle p … [Read more...]

Karma Will Run Over Your Dogma & Squash It

by Calulu(Editorial note: What follows below is my own personal thoughts on this, no one elses, I'm not speaking for the group, just me. I cannot stay silent to this. If you're offended or triggered I'm so sorry. Warning if you are triggered by scriptures or the like.)This morning several of us at NLQ were directed to look at "Women's Prayer Group Praying That the Women at MRFF All Get Incurable Breast Cancer"  posting on  Free Thought Blogs.Apparently there is a group of ladies calling themselves Christians who've decided to make praying for the death of anyone connected with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation their number one priority. And why is that? Perhaps because t … [Read more...]
