from No Greater Joy magazine by Shalom Pearl Brand - Three Types of Children, Part 3: Building Confidence (Steady/Servant Type) Don’t let your children be shy; help them overcome their fears and reach out to others. Observe your children and determine what is causing them to be shy. Is it only when someone talks to them, or is it all the time? Then, create an environment where you are in control and can train them to be confident. Do not push them to the point that they are afraid. … [Read more...]

God’s Not Dead: Thoughts on Christianity and Romance

godsnotdead

by Mari cross posted from her blog Mari's Musings The other day, my Bible study group and I went to see God’s Not Dead. I enjoyed that the movie was one that made me think. If I have to sit and stare at a screen for longer than 5 minutes, it has to keep my mind engaged. This movie did that, and I enjoyed it. I’d have to watch the movie a few more times in order to be able to comment on the arguments for and against the existence of God. I might need to take notes or something — which is hard to do in a theater, so we won’t get into those arguments. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Stay At Home Daughters Are Slaves?

leavinghome

by Suzannah Rowntree at Ladies Against Feminism - Is Stay-At-Home Daughterhood Biblical? But there was one thing missing from my convictions on “stay-at-home” daughterhood. Folks—particularly Christian peers—would remind me that the Bible doesn’t specifically command, describe, or endorse the concept, and therefore one could not make it a rule for everyone. Up until recently, I found this reasoning pretty fair. None of the books I read on the subject of daughterhood and the family made more than a persuasive argument from Scripture—certainly nothing I found convincing. Most of the factors in my own decision had been personal, and while I loved the life so much, I couldn’t … [Read more...]

IMG_1412

by Virginia Knowles cross posted from her blog Come Weary Moms An entry to the "So I've Been Spiritually Abused. What Next?" series. Four years ago, our family left a church organization which was and is facing major issues with legalism and abuse. It wasn’t easy to be there at the end.  It wasn’t easy to leave.  It still isn’t easy to navigate what I believe and how I relate to people.  Despite my deep disappointment and disillusionment, I have continued to rebuild my own spiritual life.  I have also looked back on several things that helped me transition out of more than one less-than-ideal-for-me situations.  I’d like to share these with you. … [Read more...]
