Quoting Quiverfull: Quiverfull Makes You Happy & Fulfilled?

by Tim Bayly from Bayly Blog - Faith and Sex...Editor's note: More disingenuous claims that all QF Christians are going about it the 'right' way while ignoring that the highest divorce rates in the US occur among Christians. Faith and sex my rear end. Guess I should be grateful this is not his usual whining. Almost as bad as the time he insisted that child sexual abusers need grace, forgiveness and help without mentioning once care for the victims or involving law enforcement. … [Read more...]

Open Thread: Steps You Need to Take to Leave Your Toxic Quiverfull Marriage?

Most everyone here is familiar with the story of Vyckie Garrison and others at NLQ that have had to leave their emotionally abusive and sometimes physically abusive husbands who are Quiverfull. One of the worst stories we've published on the difficulties on leaving was that of our Tess Willoughby. Here's what the final and third time Tess left looked like: … [Read more...]

Trusting Birth – Another View of Duggar Home Birthing?

Dr. Amy Tuteur is at it again. This time she's explaining in a blog post all the things that could have caused the type of bleeding that sent Jessa Duggar Seewald to the hospital post home birth. She also has an interesting view of the birth stories of other Duggar women that ended up in the hospital. Birthing odds of 200 years ago would have surely killed not only Jessa, Jill and Israel, but likely Michelle Duggar too. Josh was a forceps baby and her twins, Jana and John David were born by cesarean after Michelle developed preeclampsia. … [Read more...]

NLQ Question of the Week: Why is Modern Medicine Denigrated?

This is a new series we have started running on Thursdays. Examining some of the questions involving long held Quiverfull theology and life. We've all seen the Quiverfull families that refuse all modern medicine, sometimes with rather dire consequences. I'm thinking of a lady at my former church that had a very treatable form of cancer yet refused all treatments because she believed that medicine was idolatry and that God would heal her. She's been six feet under for quite some time now, dying in horrible agony. Her husband took the insurance money from her death to buy a yellow Corvette, and marry a much younger better looking woman after the death of his wife. … [Read more...]

Jim Bob Duggar Offers Anna a House to Stay With Cheating Husband Josh

It's floating around in the online tabloids late last night and this morning that Jim Bob Duggar has offered Anna Duggar a $345,000 house on the condition she stays married to his son Josh. This would be the same home that was purchased for the midwife to live in and that Jill and Derick Dillard stayed in during their recent visit. Of course, this is all according to unnamed Duggar 'insiders' so there's no real evidence this is true. What is true is the fact that Anna and children are back in Arkansas living with Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and assorted Duggar children. Since she's back home again and not living with her parents in Florida it seems to indicate Anna will not be divorcing … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Birth Control Steals Your Joy?

by Steven L. Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church - The Effects of Birth ControlEditor's note: That sermon transcript archive at Faithful Word Baptist Church is like Christian in July, a treasure trove of misspelled, grammar-mangling, bad ideas, bad Bible translations pile of crazy. There's nothing that exposes the under-educated belief system of a Independent  Fundamentalist Baptist Church. Another pastor doubling down on the message of no birth control ever, have as many kids as possible and women should always stay home. It's a good thing that the Marie Curies of this world didn't follow that advice or we'd have been deprived of many useful things, theories and science. … [Read more...]

Created To Need A Help Meet – Part 8 Mr. Steady (You’re Valuable, But Nobody Cares or Notices)

by Aletha cross posted from her blog Yllom Mormonp 99-101I've made mention of this earlier, but this section is more pronounced. It seems that Michael has very little respect for a Mr. Steady. Possibly because he views himself as Command/Visionary? I'm not sure, but the more I read in this chapter, the stronger that feeling gets. Let me know if you agree/disagree.Text is in purple … [Read more...]

“Lies Women Believe” Review 167 – 192

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Samantha P Field.comI think it’s possible that we might be over the hump as far as how terrible the chapters can get. The only sections left for the Lies Women Believe review cover children, circumstances, emotions, and the concluding segment. The “Emotions” chapter might be a bit rough, but today’s, compared to last week’s chapter, is a cake walk. Of course, almost anything compared to a doctrine that could kill women seems like a breeze. This week’s chapter covers what Nancy thinks about children, which means an extensive discussion on, you guessed it, family planning. IT’S UP TO US TO DETERMINE THE SIZE OF OUR FAMILY She roots her arg … [Read more...]

Here’s How the ‘Pro-Life’ Money Machine Turns Desperate Women into Submissive Baby Makers

by NLQ Founder Vyckie Garrison originally published on Raw Story(Editor's note: Since October is Domestic Violence month Vyckie's story of her first marriage fits well with that theme. We're going to be featuring information on the subject of Domestic Violence a couple of times a week) Vyckie Garrison was once a minor celebrity in the Quiverfull Movement, made famous by TV’s Duggar family. As a devout, Bible-believing Christian and the mother of seven homeschooled children, Garrison spent 16 years, with her husband, publishing a newspaper for families on a similar path. Today, via a website called No Longer Quivering, she publishes resources for women leaving the movement. The f … [Read more...]
