Created To Need A Help Meet – Part 8 Mr. Steady (You’re Valuable, But Nobody Cares or Notices)

by Aletha cross posted from her blog Yllom Mormonp 99-101I've made mention of this earlier, but this section is more pronounced. It seems that Michael has very little respect for a Mr. Steady. Possibly because he views himself as Command/Visionary? I'm not sure, but the more I read in this chapter, the stronger that feeling gets. Let me know if you agree/disagree.Text is in purple … [Read more...]

“Lies Women Believe” Review 167 – 192

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Samantha P Field.comI think it’s possible that we might be over the hump as far as how terrible the chapters can get. The only sections left for the Lies Women Believe review cover children, circumstances, emotions, and the concluding segment. The “Emotions” chapter might be a bit rough, but today’s, compared to last week’s chapter, is a cake walk. Of course, almost anything compared to a doctrine that could kill women seems like a breeze. This week’s chapter covers what Nancy thinks about children, which means an extensive discussion on, you guessed it, family planning. IT’S UP TO US TO DETERMINE THE SIZE OF OUR FAMILY She roots her arg … [Read more...]

Here’s How the ‘Pro-Life’ Money Machine Turns Desperate Women into Submissive Baby Makers

by NLQ Founder Vyckie Garrison originally published on Raw Story(Editor's note: Since October is Domestic Violence month Vyckie's story of her first marriage fits well with that theme. We're going to be featuring information on the subject of Domestic Violence a couple of times a week) Vyckie Garrison was once a minor celebrity in the Quiverfull Movement, made famous by TV’s Duggar family. As a devout, Bible-believing Christian and the mother of seven homeschooled children, Garrison spent 16 years, with her husband, publishing a newspaper for families on a similar path. Today, via a website called No Longer Quivering, she publishes resources for women leaving the movement. The f … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: A Tax on Working Mothers?

by Biblical Gender Roles at Biblical Gender Roles.com – Lindsey Graham Says We Need to Import Other Country’s(SIC) ChildrenEditor's note: So this is more from the piece we quoted last week involving Lindsay Graham saying we would need to import workers to offset the coming large number of baby boomers retiring. In this part BGR's wants the government and our tax system to reward Quiverfull families with lots of children and stay at home mothers, while penalizing any mother with children that does dare to work outside of the home. There's nothing taking into account the fact that for many families, even those where the mother would like to stay home with the children or feels massive gui … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Feminism and Materialism Behind Low American Birth Rates?

by Biblical Gender Roles at Biblical Gender Roles.com - Lindsey Graham Says We Need to Import Other Country's(SIC) ChildrenEditor's note: We'll no longer be directly linking to BGR because he has been rejoicing over his hit counter exploding the last six months. Better not to improve his search engine rankings while pondering his strange beliefs. Here he's bemoaning the fact that in order to maintain all the people retiring from the Baby Boomer group it looks like we'll have to import workers to keep the economy healthy. I am guessing by some of his subtle digs he's also anti-immigration and pro 'Murica' like many others in the extremes of Christianity. He wants everyone to be … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Any Suppression of Your Fertility is Wrong?

by Tamara Rajakariar from MercatorNet and as quoted by Ladies Against Feminism - Do Women Need to Have Periods?Editor's note: This bit was said by a fertility 'practitioner' practicing in Australia.  Not a medical doctor. It is my understanding that with issues related to your period one of the first things that physicians tend to try to ease the problems are hormone-based birth control pills. Which is exactly the opposite of what this expert is saying you need to do. How exactly is using birth control to ease problems with your cycle causing women to be more masculine? … [Read more...]

Stop ‘Knowing’ What Anna Duggar Will Do

by Lana Hope cross posted from her blog Wide Open GroundThe downside of the cute, quiet  ATI-patriarchal-quiverfull life of the Duggar family is now all over mainstream media. While it’s somewhat of a relief to see the public realize that conservative homeschooling is not as innocent as it seems, as an ATi alum myself, it’s also gets very triggering and downright weary to hear the media mock my childhood leaders as if it’s nothing but a good story for them. Likewise, seeing the Duggar kids pictures on the front page of the tabloids makes me sad. The Duggars aren’t a juicy story to devour. They are a broken, hurting family. … [Read more...]

The Language of Cults, Duggars and Quiverfull: How to Communicate With People Outside the Subculture

by Cindy Kunsman cross posted from her blog Under Much GraceHow do we define a cult in respect to the Duggars and Quiverfull?I wrote all kinds of material that never made it into Hillary McFarland's Quivering Daughters book, but I was grateful to many people who peer reviewed my contributions to it.  Along with concerns about technical accuracy, I also wanted to see how people without intimate knowledge of religion or homeschooling would respond to the material.I began to more deeply appreciate two primary lessons regarding the discussion of the issues involved with the Patriarchy/Quiverfull Movement. … [Read more...]

News: Northwest Arkansas Newspaper Suing For Copy of Duggar 911 Call

Back in May during the fallout over the child molestation done by Josh Duggar someone reported concerns for one of the children to the local DHS. A social worker tried to visit the home and was denied access to the child in question and the home by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. Faced with no other choice in an ugly situation the social worked dialed up 911 and asked for law enforcement help in their investigation. Pretty straightforward situation, right? … [Read more...]
