A Few Thoughts on Abortion and Planned Parenthood Videos

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Life and Times of Bruce GerencserI’ve been asked to give my take on the Planned Parenthood videos. When it comes to Planned Parenthood’s mission, to provide healthcare to women, I am 100% in their corner. Providing abortions is a small part of Planned Parenthood’s services, and defunding Planned Parenthood would have a deleterious effect on the health of poor women. Attempts to defund Planned Parenthood are driven by religious belief and bad science. We live in a secular state, one that supposedly separates church and state and one that values science; yet, when it comes to abortion, the debate is framed by religious claims that result … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Only Marry Women That Want Children?

by Pastor Stephen Kim from his blog NYC Pastor - 10 Women Christian Men Should Not MarryEditor's note: We shared parts of this post back in January when it was first written. But upon rereading it this bit about women marrying must have children seems insulting and belittling. Not every married couple wants children and not everyone should have them. Not everyone should have kids and no one should ever have a child who doesn't actually want one. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Trusting God With Your Fertility?

by Zsuzsanna Anderson from Are They All Yours? - Body Weight and FertilityEditor's note: Many have been wondering exactly where Anderson draws the line at medical care. In her blog she has routinely ranted against any medical intervention, until she was going to lose her pregnancy of twins due to TTTS. Quicker than you can say 'Vaccines are an evil government plan.' Zsu was at a high risk pregnancy doctor being treated in an effort to save one or both babies. Reading this bit it seems like she may have modified her doctors are evil stance. Add in a little advice on body weight and fertility. What do you think? Are you really trusting God with your fertility if you use medical treatments … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 4 – Have Your Babies In Your Teens?

by Biblical Gender Roles from Biblical Gender Roles.com - Women's Ovaries Don't Agree With FeminismEditor's note: Clearly BGR, or as NLQ SASBN member Bruce Gerencser likes to call him Coward Behind The Screen CBtS, believes the same false logic as Nancy Campbell that our world is under populated and some big disaster will happen unless we all have huge families of many children. That's not so, this is another lie that fundamentalist quiverfull Christians believe that has no scientific basis in fact. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Scary Thoughts of Forced Motherhood?

by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies - Mothers Won The WarEditor's note: Is this just wishful thinking or a real prophesy? Sounds like wishful thinking but with the way so many of our politicians are pushing Quiverfull ideas and agendas it could be something that happens by government mandate one day.  While motherhood can be a noble thing mandating stay at home motherhood for everyone is an awful idea. Freedom is a good thing. … [Read more...]

Behind Compound Walls: Dueling Duggar Stories – Is Josh Duggar ‘Suicidal’?

Everything single morning I can count on a couple of things once I get out of bed. 1) The cats will demand food, 2) I will need copious amounts of coffee and 3) there will be a pile of articles involving the Duggar family landing in my email box. Personally I prefer the cats and coffee. One reason why is became many times the stories of TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar stories are either generated by their PR firm or they all just contradict the hell out each other. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Waiting To Marry & Reproduce Is Sinful?

by Courtney Reissig from John Piper's The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood - The "It Can Wait" PhenomenonEditor's note: Evangelical Christianity fear tactics to get the women folks out of the work force and home having babies asap. No one should ever feel pressured or guilted into becoming a wife or a mother. … [Read more...]

Jill and Jessa as Quivering Daughters: Hillary McFarland’s Book is Available Again!

by Cindy Kunsman cross posted from her blog Under Much Grace The previous post explains the plight of Second Generation Adults of Patriarchy (SGAs) — those who suffer in the confinement of thought and in the circumstances in life created by Christians who sought to help their families.  The SGA describes adults who grew up in a family that followed high demand religion — a process that has profound effects for those who endure it.  Quivering Daughters by Hillary McFarland seeks to help those who have lived a “Duggar-like lifestyle” but found that it worked to destroy that which it was meant to create.  Rather than a nurturing environment of safety and love, many of its daughters and sons wer … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 1 – Never Worry About Providing For Your Kids?

by Nancy Campbell from Above Rubies Magazine - Is God Able to Provide For Another Baby?Editor's note: A long article from Nancy ordering people to trust God and have as many kids as possible. The truly bizarre part of the article to me is Nancy trying to shame people by pointing out that the Israelites wandering for forty years didn't have split level homes or 7-11s but they had everything they needed to support a huge family because God provided manna in the wilderness. Sorry Nancy, that really does not translate into our times. Is she genuinely suggesting living in a tent here? Isn't that what the Naugler family was doing before CPS decided that wasn't providing for their children? … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Oh No, We’re Not Quiverfull?

by Kelly Crawford of Generation Cedar - Why I Agreed to Do a National Interview About Not Being QuiverfullEditor's note: Kelly is trying to back pedal from being Quiverfull even while she will not use birth control and has as many children as possible for the glory of God, which is actually the main definition of the Quiverfull movement, or as some folks in denial call it, the Replenishment Movement. Her immediate jump is to claim again and again that she is not Quiverfull and labels are the problem, not the twisted practices and dangerously bad theology. My Cajun great grandmother used to have a saying for times like these, "You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd." Same thing with … [Read more...]
